The Olympics should be in the U.S. because most of the facilities are already in use by Universities. And for big events? We can use our football stadiums and basketball/hockey stadium. While in other countries, they have to build them from scratch and then abandon them after the Olympics end.

It might be better to just keep the summer Olympics in Greece for good and find one perfect place for the winter Olympics. Keep the facilities up and make them a quality destination. Just a thought.

Other large countries don’t have university sports facilities?
Or giant stadiums for soccer, cricket, etc?

As I pointed out, here in Dallas/Fort Worth we’ve got enough venues with the High School football stadiums alone.

I think Atlanta did a good job on planning for use of the venues after the event.

Yeah it’s crazy that the World Cup will be held in Qatar in 2022. The country is so small that it’s not worth keeping one stadium after the World Cup ends.

World Cup in a place where you can’t drink and see scantily-clad women, yeah that’s a good idea. /s

Didn’t most of the Olympic venues in America keep getting used for other things.

I was just at the kayaking facility in Ocoee is still being used and fairly popular.

Other countries don’t have their universities compete in sports the way we do there in the U.S. I’m sure they have club sports, but they have no stadiums like University of Michigan stadium which can hold over 100,000 fans.

The ski jump in Oslo from the 1952 Winter Olympics is still in use.

That’s the thing that really makes the article ring a bit hollow, even though the point they are making is a legit one.

Showing venues in places hit by devastating war doesn’t count. And the ski-jump in Italy is over 60 years old! It likely wouldn’t even be safe to use anyway.

What happened to the Moscow venues? Mexico City? Seoul? Barcelona? and Sydney?

LA and Atlanta used existing infrastructure so they are far better off.

The site in Guangzhou, China is still looking fantastic. Visited last year. An amazing city.

No price is too high for the world’s ‘elites’ to look good in each others eyes... (well, since the price is paid by the struggling citizens of these countries anyway - and NEVER by the corrupt ‘elites’.)

Conspicuously absent from this list are any of the major venues from the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan. Amazingly, they are still be used some 18 years later.

We went to Innsbruck a few years ago, and saw the ski jump.

What's this 'Montreal is still paying for their Olympics' dreck? CANADA, more precisely ALBERTA is still paying for QUEBEC's Olympics!

I think they will have certain areas zoned for World Cup only and fans will be able to purchase alcohol. So that way British fans will be willing to travel to Qatar and spend their money.

Most countries would have gone medieval on Lee and Jeff Davis’ ass, but my Northern ancestors gave you Southern snowflakes a break. Of course if Johnny Reb hadn’t lost the war they started, I guess Northern aggression wouldn’t have mattered.
