The construction from 1936 seems to have held up
fairly well.
In the future archeologists will wonder at the remaining
concrete structures and make wild guesses as to their
meanings and use. Perhaps for some kind of games or
religious ceremonies?
Really some of them, like the flag poles and such are
quite sculptural just by themselves.
And if that doesn't work, they can start selling some of their islands.
Or we could go back to the original events that they had in 700 BC. If all the athletes were naked, then it couldn’t be shown on television.
This would solve many problems, but I’m sure there would be many objections...
Yup. the University of Utah still uses the stadium for football games and the athlete housing for student dorms. Skating rinks still doing great business across Salt Lake City.

The political aspect of that war was union versus fragmentation.
It would seem that with a little foresight (and probably a whole lot less corruption), the Olympic exercise could be turned to the host country’s advantage (somewhat?).
Too bad corruption reigns supreme here, there and, apparently, everywhere.
I live near Atlanta, where the Olympics were held 20 years ago. We’ve actually made great use of the Olympic facilities here.
I assume most Olympic venues become useless or under-utilized after a few years. Not so in Atlanta, which is good. :-)
Brazil got to the decaying stage before the Olympics even started.

You forgot the 800-pound-gorilla-in-the-room aspect — human slavery. The good guys won.
Calgary’s Olympic facilities are all still in use, though the Flames want a newer rink rather than the ‘old’ Saddledome. Calgary is also the Winter Olympic training centre for Canadian athletes, so all the ‘88 Olympic sites are still in use.
Hosting the Olympics is always an economic disaster. There is no reason not to use the venues long after. Why can’t the stadiums be used by professional sports or give them to the local high schools or colleges? Same with the swimming pools or turn them into city run public pools. Let a hotel chain buy out the dorms and charge extra to stay in the Gold Medal rooms. Huge parking lots should be a cinch to sale to developers since the land has already been leveled. Bottom line, it’s ridiculous not to continue to use them or set up permanent ones as you said. Ack, but then you’d have complaints about the home field advantage.

So is the one in Sapporo, Japan. Personally I think you'd have to be nuts to use it, but I guess you have to learn somewhere. I did see a couple of interesting wipe-outs there.
Permanent facilities, yes, in Greece would be nice if that country weren't already using the existing facilities to house refugees/immigrants/invaders. What a waste. Greek tourism could benefit greatly, and it needs it.
Winter Olympics, well, we found out what happens if we try to run it in a place (coughcoughSOCHIcoughcough) that doesn't have reliable snowfall. Oslo, though...maybe that's the right venue. I'll leave that for discussion.
Big facilities have big maintenance and utility costs.

Except for those slaves that were being traded like cattle, breaking up families. I am sure the owners never lost any sleep. Sort of like today’s Democratic party where the same descendants of slaves are in quasi slavery and the Democratic overlords (like in the good ole days) keeping a watchful eye over them.
Brilliant! Then we wouldn't have American muzzy athletes badmouthing the US. Also, it'd have to be pay per view and the rest of us wouldn't have our regular programs interrupted.
