French set to be the world's most commonly spoken language by 2050 because of soaring population growth in sub-Saharan Africa
-Study says 750 million people will speak French as first language by 2050
-It is spoken in sub-Saharan Africa, one of the fastest growing-populations in the world

They've been defensive for decades in preserving the purity of the language of love from the threat of globalisation.

But now it seems all will have paid off for the French, whose language is set to become the world's most spoken language by 2050, thanks to growing francophone populations in sub-Saharan Africa.

While the top languages in the world today are Mandarin, English, Spanish, and Arabic, Natixis has produced figures that show French will be number one in 35 years time.

The latest projection is that French will be spoken by 750 million people by 2050, compared to 220 million people in 2010.

The internet is English friendly. Most educated South Americans speak English, and you need English to learn advanced science.etc. because that is what the text books are written in.6

as for Mandarin...one third of Chinese do not speak it, and many who do speak a dialect that others may not understand. Most if the Chinese diaspora speak Cantonese...Then there is the problem of writing Chinese.

Working in the field of software, I thank my lucky stars that I was born a native English speaker in the United States of America.

English speakers invented software.

We in the Anglosphere are supremely smart.

But we must never forget, the wogs learn fast! And cost less to hire!

Chinese is far and away the most common language, in the world.

Mandarin and Cantonese is not a clear distinction, since many actually speak both.

Written Chinese however is constant among the entire country, and among all Chinese everywhere. With the exception, that there are more complex characters used in Taiwan and away from China, than the slightly more simple characters actually used in China.

Subsaharan populations are exploding? Aren’t they always dirt poor on the brink of famine and have an epidemic of aids?

Nah, there will always be more people who speak Chinese than French. The country with the most English speakers is also China, as 1/3 of the Chinese also speak English, i.e., 500 million Chinese speak English vs. 300 million Americans who mostly speak English.

And at that time, I'll either be dead or 84 and not giving a damn.

English is the language of commerce ... it’s the most common ‘second’ language of people who are successful the world over.

Newton’s Principia Mathematica was written in Latin; Einstein’s first influential papers were written in German; Marie Curie’s work was published in French. Yet today, most scientific research around the world is published in a single language, English.

Since the middle of the last century, things have shifted in the global scientific community. English is now so prevalent that in some non-English speaking countries, like Germany, France, and Spain, English-language academic papers outnumber publications in the country’s own language several times over. In the Netherlands, one of the more extreme examples, this ratio is an astonishing 40 to 1.

Chapeau means ‘hat’.

Oeuf means ‘egg’.

It’s like those French have a different word for everything.

Ha. By 2050 there won’t be a France.
By then, they and the rest of the EU will be run over by Muslims.

I heard French is slipping in Africa because English is the world language of business. Look to some countries to switch over to English for school instruction.
