Four years ago, Russia's Ilya Zakharov won gold in the men's 3m springboard. He looked fantastic back then. Fast-forward to 2016, with Zakharov competing in the semifinal for the same event. This time, everything fell apart for him.
His knees buckled mid-air, causing him to belly flop into the water. He scored zero points, which put a dent into his total score -- 555.90 back in 2012, but 345.60 in Rio -- and placed him in last place. The fact that he even made it to the semis is pretty noteworthy; during the preliminary round, Zakharov hit the board on his first dive, but still placed third after better dives.

Some one must have lowered the diving board, or raised the water level in the pool.
The Triple Lindy? It’s too dangerous. Nobody can do that dive.
I was watching it live. They had 45 mph winds hitting them directly in the face. It was an open air competition. Most of the Americans train in open air situations so they did very well. Anyone else not use to it would get their mechanics screwed up. Illy was lucky he didn’t get hurt seriously from that dive.

He should have just used the opportunity to pull a “triple Lindy” like Rodney Dangerfield....
That was indeed the worst olympic dive ever, especially coming from a Russian.
I can manage to bounce off and curl up. Hitting the water is a hopeful outcome.
Either that or the Russian mafia has it’s claws in Zakharov and he had no choice but to blow the dive..........
Wow I hadn’t seen his dives from today. I don’t think they had a problem with wind today. I have to agree with you. He is either under the influence of some sort of drug or he was ordered to lose for some reason
I would love to see militant hijabi fencer babe do that same dive in full burqini.

Failing to hit the water would be a career limiting move.
I saw this live earlier, crazy stuff. This Russian won gold in diving in 2012 and he’s been all over the place this Olympics.
