Brazilian police say Ryan Lochte and three other swimmers who claimed they were robbed had in fact destroyed a gas station toilet and refused to pay for the damage until a security guard waved a gun at them, DailyMail.com can disclose. A source with knowledge of the investigation said the four handed over money after the guard at the gas station insisted they pay. The version of events emerged as police in Rio prepared to quiz the taxi driver who picked up the four after they left a nightclub and resume questioning the three swimmers still in Brazil.

If that’s all it was then why has the investigation taken so many days? File a complaint with the OC and the OC can demand the coach pay $200 to install a new toilet. Making a federal case out of it will cost all sides a load more.
Interesting. The Brazilian theory starts to add some credibility about what might have actually happened.
Remember:
They did not call the police. Lochte’s mom started the hubbub with interviews
They were “very” drunk
They are young energetic and physically fit athletes high on emotion from victory.
The police come to them and ask if they got robbed. They are short of $400 and may not even remember all the details. But when a gun is pointed at you. The brain starts to catalog and retain stuff. Then they start to explain in a way that leaves out why someone might have legitimately been demanding some money from them?
Let’s see how it unfolds. The story indicates there is video footage of the whole event. Lochte may have lied to his mother because he needed some money to get home. Mom goes nuts over the danger her baby is in and runs to the media?

It’s Rio’. A city very similar to ones with heavy Amish populations like that of the U.S. You better believe you need a gun to keep ‘yo $hit from getting ripped off.
If this is accepted by the Brazilian authorities as true, then jail time is a possibility.
And if jail time here is no picnic, in Brazil it’s much, much worse.
Funny how everyone throws in on one side or the other VERY quickly as facts and speculation evolve. If they have video and the boys behaved badly in a foreign country and got what they deserved, I agree with you.
But note, they never filed a police report or reported the robbery. The police came to them after Lochte’s mom relayed the story her beloved son TOLD HER.
I think somewhere between the drunkeness and Mom’s gonna be pissed, they may have put themselves in a bad situation. Did a gun wielding security guard take advantage of the opportunity?
Again, we shall see.
It might be that “toilet” refers to the entire little room. Of course that still begs the question of what damage you can do in there while drunk. Smashed mirror? Tore off the stall door? The details might sharpen up in the next report or two.
They might have just tried to flush some TP down it after having used it.
SOP for bathrooms in the USA but will cause a major clog and back up in South American septic systems.

Your going to have to trust me on this. 3rd world countries do not have the same type of fixtures and facilities that we are used to here in the US. Their idea of a toilet could be a trough, hole in the floor, etc. I'm not sure "what" they destroyed. But it may not "translate" well if you know what I mean.

The swimmers never reported the "robbery". They only investigated after Lochte's mom went to the media. The media ate it up because it is dramatic and fits the meme of the mess that is Brazil. The police came asking questions of the swimmers.
I don’t know if I would file a police report in some countries, either. In some places the LAST thing you’d ever want to do is to call the police.
