It's been nearly 20 years since Judy Peckler's life was forever changed by a drunken driver who wiped out three members of her immediate family. Peckler's 52-year-old husband Jim, 21-year-old daughter Jill and 15-year-old son Jeffrey were killed on Jan. 17, 1997, when a pick-up driven by Robert P. Scott slammed into them near Truckee.
Scott was sentenced to 24 years to life in prison. But he has a parole hearing on Aug. 24, so Peckler is asking anyone who may have been impacted by the crash to write impact letters to the parole board (see her letter addressed "To Our Dear Los Gatos Community" on page 16).
The letter that Peckler and her two surviving daughters wrote to the community says, "If you have been impacted by our family's tragic crash or if you are a proponent of zero tolerance for drinking and driving, I would appreciate having your voice heard at the parole hearing."
Peckler said Scott was a repeat DUI offender whose court case was resolved by plea bargain. "He was on parole at the time, so rather than charge him with DUI he was charged with breaking parole," Peckler said. "So, that eliminated his second DUI. But he was also convicted of four counts of murder."

Why is “murderer” in sneer quotes? That piece of trash is a murderer, and if we didn’t have so many “social” drinkers we would be executing people like that.
No worry, Governor Jerry Brown will come to the rescue with a pardon
Governor Moonbeam is always good for bad policy choices ;-)
Liberals are wrong 100% of the time, so this is not surprising.
