I live in Alaska, been here for about 20 years. Age. 70+. I don’t wear a coat unless it’s below 32 degrees. Sweater, maybe.

At my mother’s retirement home all the ladies are wearing sweaters right now — 95 outside, 80s in mamy of the rooms (most don’t turn on the AC).

That is not any kind of coat, much less a winter one. It's the same outfit she wore in June of this year to another fund raiser.
My late MIL would have called it a schmatta.
It just looks tweedy at a distance and in low resolution web photos. Up close one can see the pattern with some apparent small gold design woven or printed on the fabric.
Kinda of wealthy unborn Gila Monster skin.
