"They were terrified of entering another country without documentation. No one carries their passport or any ID, and a lot were drinking alcohol,"

That may sound like an innocent statement but the fact is, Canadian border agents at both Windsor and the Blue Water Bridge in Sarnia are assholes and will go out of their way to harass Americans returning to the U.S. from Canada..........

Several years ago I was invited to play on a senior travel softball team in Detroit which plays against a Canadian team but I turned them down due to having either an "enhanced" drivers ID or a passport in order to get into Canada.........

I’ve never had a problem crossing into Windsor, it’s the American Border agents coming back on our side that are the Asses.

Cross on Friday to fish the weekend. Coming back-Have boat, gear and a cooler of fish AND he can see I crossed 2 days earlier with all but fish.

“Um where you traveling?”Home you jackass. You know the address on my Truck, Trailer, Boat and Enhanced drivers license you scanned 50 yards back! Oh no, stop, open your truck, pull the tarp off the boat. Need to sniff the cooler.

Meanwhile Akmed and his car full of bad intentions is waved by....

Your statement:

.....Canadian border agents at both Windsor are assholes and will go out of their way to harass Americans returning to the U.S. from Canada.....

This has me puzzled, not that I am doubting you. I am at Sault Ste. Marie Ontario, a twin city with Sault Ste. Marie Michigan. Anyone going over to the American side from Canada simply goes right past the Canadian Customs. Even the Canadian duty free store is located past the customs.

Same thing when one comes back from the good old USA. Drive right through past the US Customs after paying bridge fees.

So bloomin' friendly up here- if one minds ones manners.

I stand corrected in my statement to you, which should have carried a qualifier. I have seen American vehicles having to stop first to declare catches of fish on the Canadian side. This to prove they have the mandated limit of catch in Canada. No over fishing.

What I meant was that the average person in the vast majority, zooms right over the bridge. Only stopping for entry the USA. Customs people pretty nice there, but I guess a couple of senior citizens going to Walmart do not raise any hackles.
