Almost forgot.

Met George Forman one night on a flight from Houston to Newark. He was heading to Philly for a commentator gig on a fight. I was in first class with him and his sons and we spent the flight talking boxing and the Houston Oilers.

When we got to Newark Airport (it was late at night) I said goodbye to him and asked him to sign my copy of Rolling Stone magazine. He laughed and said, “not on a bet.”

Dave Cowens: I went to college with him. I remember one night I was in the Keg a local watering hole just off campus and I walked up to the bar to get a glass of beer and I was standing next to Dave Cowens. He was so tall the top of my head was just about the middle of his stomach. I’m 5’9’.

George Blanda: Dolphins-Jets game in Miami stadium

Nick Buoniconti: Was introduced to him at a party. He was my height. I thought that was strange.

Larry Seiple: Dolphins punter. He was BFF with one of my friends from college.

BOR: At a book signing. He was not very friendly.

Steve Forbes: At a Heritage luncheon in Atlanta. Very nice guy.

Newt Gingrich: Shook his hand at a rally in 2012.

Hubert Humphrey: Shook his hand on a rope line in college.

Billy Joe Royal: Rock musician. Wanted to “meet me” after a gig I attended in Jax as a 16 year old. I was smart enough to go on home. :-)

Jerry Reid: One of my friends was married to a guy who used to be in the Charlie Daniels band so he was friends with Reid’s drummer and we were supposed to go backstage at an 80’s gig in Jax. Reid arrived and was ticked off at the small size of the crowd so he played for only 30 minutes and then left to go to Tampa to hookup with Waylen Jennings. But we did get to meet him for a minute or so. He was distracted. Not very memorable.

I can’t compete with Mr. GG2 who’s father used to do remodel work for Bob Hope and Mr. GG2 worked there in the summer. He said Bob Hope and his wife were great people.

He also knew Linda Gray from Dallas and she showed up at Hope’s one day with her new Mustang and took Mr. GG2 for a ride in it. I don’t blame her he’s a hunk. :-)

EVERYBODY is SOMEBODY! - This stupid “celebrity culture” we
now live in is stupid. - Marrying & divorcing, marrying &
divorcing, etc., etc. - ANYTHING to call attention to
themselves. - FOUR ignorant “celebrities” were on a tv show
this morning, all chattering like magpies (except maybe just
one of them who, at least for now, seemed aware that she is
no better than anyone else). All of them looked to be in
their late 20’s and fast approaching their “sell by” date.
Were “with” so-called “powerful” men who most likely will
trade them in for two 20 yr. olds when they hit 40 yrs. of
age. (Remove all their PAINT & the wear & tear will appear.)

You know, I don’t think I’ve ever actually met anyone famous or influential at all!

I'm in your club, Megan !

Thought of another media type who made a wonderful impression and that was Leslie Visser. Incredibly attractive in person, much more so than on TV. Just very kind.

Jim Nantz is nice but awkward. I was with another famous person at the time and Nantz just tried too hard and it made it uncomfortable.

I forgot about Lou Ferigno. He worked out at a gym where I worked. I’ve met numerous other world class body builders.

Wow. You lead an interesting life. Mine’s boring as hell :)

Thank God at least my younger years weren’t!

Lou looks like a nice guy.

I used to go to Bay Ridge clubs and bars, mostly.

I don't like to drop names, but I've met Bozo the Clown and Duane Elliot and Floppy.

I also had a guest shot in the Romper Room TV audience in Paducah, Kentucky back in the 1960s, but that was just a one-time deal.

I try not to let that all that crazy fame stuff go to my head, but it's hard sometimes way out here on the road less traveled.

One would think, but there’s little daylight between them. Cher is a real piece of work.

Not me, but my dad (from Texas) served in the 500th special division at Elmendorf. they had this scrawny, smelly sonofagun in their unit who they had to BEG and FORCE to bathe at least once a week.

All he would talk about is how he was gonna make it big. My dad didn’t care for his singing, all through his nose.
He was from Texas, too, and wanted my dad to stay in touch, but he didnt’. In fact, my dad only told me this about five years ago.

Everyone in the unit was quite happy when they transferred the guy back to the states.

Willie Nelson.

Ronald Reagan, early 60’s, when he gave a speech on the economy at the GE plant where my Dad worked. I was in Jr. HS, yet he stopped to talk with me after the speech. I had been riveted by it and had some questions. He treated me like an adult.

Richard Nixon, 1960. I volunteered at GOP headquarters. They patted me on the head and gave me a cool Nixon-Lodge lenticular campaign button.
Later, they called me at home and asked me to be the official greeter at the airport on behalf of the city when Nixon came for a campaign appearance.
We shook hands. He was nervous, didn’t make eye contact, had damp and limp handshake.

Sarah and Todd Palin, 2008. They were both wonderful, warm, endearing—much more impressive in person than even during the rally.

Moe, Larry and Shemp, backstage at the Melody Top Theater in Hillside, IL.....very early ‘60’s. Very kind and subdued....I guess the “kid” in me expected them to be as “on” as I had always seen them on television.

I went to high school near the Melody Top. I have always heard that their final performance ever was held there.

I have a friend who has had repeated professional dealings with Yeager and says he’s the biggest SOB he’s ever had the misfortune to deal with. Glad your dad’s experience was better.

I’ve heard the same about Yeager from multiple people. Too bad.

I had the misfortune of sitting in front of Lisa Murkowski’s mother in law on a flight to Hawaii. She spent seemingly the entire 5 hours telling the person sitting next to her how great that Murkowski is. It was nauseating.

I met several presidents, but my favorite was Reagan. He really was as charming in person as he was presented on TV.
