Trump's Weirdo Doctor Uses Windows XP, Which Could Be a Violation of HIPAA
Gizmodo ^ | 26 August 2016 | Matt Novak

NBC News has a new article about Donald Trump’s doctor of 35 years, Dr. Harold Bornstein—the guy who claimed that Trump, if elected, would be “the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency.” The dude looks like a character from a bad 70s porno flick, but Deadspin’s Tim Burke spotted something weirder: Dr. Bornstein is using Windows XP.

Why does it matter if Dr. Bornstein is using an outdated operating system? Well, it could be a violation of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP back in 2014 and HIPAA requires doctors to make continued security updates to their systems to protect the privacy of the information they collect on their patients.

Information stored on a computer running Windows XP is potentially at risk and the security community pretty universally regards Windows XP as unsafe at this point. So... best of luck, Mr. Trump?

Looking at his “messy desk” I see a small laptop. For the one for internet?
The XP may not be online.

WindowsXP is still a good operating system. Maybe the good doctor does not have the XP machine connected to the internet so that security is a non-issue.

Are the dims really that dim?

I don’t see any correlation. If a government can allow the storage of sensitive information at all levels to be stored on a “private server” in the basement of Hilary’s home, then what’s the big deal? I don’t think Trump’s last prostrate exam results mean a lot to national security. Besides, he can use any system he and his group want. There is no system set up and protected by anything required by HIPAA other than a strong anti-virus system. And as long as a system is in place, HIPAA doesn’t care. And Hilary’s computer was talking to everyone.

That’s his desktop computer. That’s not the computer most doctors use for clinical information. What an assumption.

Nothing wrong with XP. I used it for years. Upgraded recently to Win 7 and will be here forever. No Win 10 for me. Waay too invasive.

XP is a great OS. If MSFT had a different business plan, one that did not depend on regularly released “new” versions of the OS, XP could still be going strong.

As a physician, this is spot on! Just because doc’s desk computer has a certain OS doesn’t mean that his practice’s medical records are (1) computerized EHR and not paper records or (2) on that same operating system/network.
Alt-left must be getting incredibly desperate to reach this low!

My kids pediatrician was the best doctor I’ve ever encountered, and she was not what you would have called a typical doctor.

I just get the KBxxx so and so. But I also get them from another group of XP people.

I don’t disseminate them because it’s an effort, but even in the banking industry there are XP machines in play.

Why is the Doctor referred to as a “weirdo”?

Is he a Democrat or something?

Well that settles it. Trumps doctor using XP is enough for me not to vote for Trump. I can overlook grifting, pay-to-play, electioneering, charity fraud, racism, hypocracy, lying, inaccessibility, and overall corruption plaguing Hillary. /sarc
