Absolutely way cool! It does need to be a plastic gun though (yeh, composite, I know!) Not the thing for my 1911 clone! Might need to have the film on your mobile though - Fish&Wildlife are usually OK, but get one on a bad day ... it would help!

Very invasive species. Down in the Caribbean and Cozumel we’ll catch as many as possible for a Lionfish fry.

I would think a smaller caliber would be effective, maybe 22.

I was underwater a few times when I fired my 40 cal, I wore ear plugs first, then took them out- the water seemed to absorb the blast way more effectively than any suppressor I ever used. In the air, it seems like the blast is a whole lot of gas- under water- a medium sized balloons’ worth of a bubble- Discharging 34k psi of powder gas under more than atmospheric pressure attenuates it quite well.

The tube they show has holes along its length- a suppressor as we know it, it is not!

Truth in lending- I am rather hard of hearing anyways, so maybe for a normally enabled set of ears it would be harsh.... Darn tank gun rounds and IEDs....

PNW arms has developed a supercavitation bullet that can travel 15+ meters under water at the equivalent supersonic speeds in air. The speed of sound in water is about 5000 fps or 5 times thay in air so bullets under water are by definition subsonic. These new bullets are being used by the navy to shoot mines from the air a 50 cal BMG bullet of their design goes 60meters through water and can still pierce a mine’s steel skin. making a handgun version shouldn’t be that hard the physics is the same given these are all subsonic underwater. Google them they have some impressive videos of shooting through 20+ feet of water then a steel plate and more water. An AK47 is full functional underwater a 7.62 bullet by their design goes 20m from a 7.62x55mm the 7.62x39mm has 600fps less velocity in air which underwater wouldn’t make that much of a difference the AK round should be positively lethal out to 15ish meters thats many times farther that a stock fmj AK round goes with lethality under water.
