How the West wasn't white: Building a diverse 'Magnificent 7'

“The western constantly changes depending on where we are as a society,” Fuqua explained. “What I wanted to do was bring it up to date and show people it’s an exciting genre. It represents who we are, what the promise of the United States is supposed to be.”

The 1960 “Magnificent Seven” — itself a remake of Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 epic “Seven Samurai” — had featured white actors in even some of the non-Caucasian roles, with Eli Wallach playing the bandit leader Calvera and Horst Buchholz as a young Mexican gunslinger named Chico.

In Fuqua’s remake, by contrast, four of the title heroes are nonwhite, including Washington’s Sam Chisolm; Comanche warrior Red Harvest, played by Native American actor Martin Sensmeier; South

Then there was Robert Morley as the Emperor of China, and James Mason as the Chinese ambassador in the 1965 version of Gengis Khan.

I like Denzel and Pratt - although don't know about Pratt in a western, but westerns are my favorite genre and I practically have the 1960 version memorized so won't be paying to see this.

I mean replacing McQueen, Brynner, Coburn and Bronson ... I don't think so.

Talking movies - I would pay to see "Sully" - again.

Bunch of carpet baggers? Oh there were several carpet baggers. Yes in deed. But we were talking actual “Cowboys “ for hire who strung fence and rode cattle and broke broncs and shot and killed indians who attacked them. Not “Baggers”.

but one of them was not the real wild west......UMMM, if you read, most cowboys in the West were blacks from the Civil War who went there to leave the South far behind and find real freedom. A LOT of law enforcement was blacks in the Indian Territories.

Bass was sort of Rooster Cogburn (of True Grit) with a tan. One thing not mentioned in the Wikipedia article you were pinged with, is that he was illiterate, and would dictate his reports to folks he stayed with along the trail. Actually, a Denzel Washington movie of his life would have been both more original and interesting.

Wikipedia is full of total contrivances. Many of their fabrications are to promote political correctness. The actual facts were no black cowboys. Zero.
