A punch. A death. And now a fear in Britain that a surge in hate crimes is here to stay.

HARLOW, England — He went down with a single punch.

Arkadiusz Jóźwik — shy, devoted to his mother and an immigrant to Britain from his native Poland — was out with friends late last month enjoying pizza and drinks when they were set upon by a group of teens, some reportedly shouting anti-Polish slurs.

WaPo thinks (along with the rest of the Far Left), that those wanting more autonomy and freedom (Brexit) are racists..

Muslims kill dozens, not a peep, and then one guy in England get killed in a fight - and so “hate crimes are here to stay.”

I lived in the UK for 6 years. Her history, reading about it, studying it, etc, is my biggest hobby. Its heartbreaking to see the Brits cede their country to the rapists without a fight. Oliver Cromwell, The Plantagenets, The Confessor, and that venerable woman, Margaret Thatcher are spinning, just to name a few..

They’re very carefully tiptoeing around identifying these “teens,” which in the United States almost always means a minority. However, I had to read through to the comments to discover that they’re white. But still, the attack is being described as racism. Poles are white. English are white. It’s not racism. Anti-immigrant, probably. Or, it could have been a group of drunk young men looking for a fight and he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, no other motive than that.

Yeah God forbid a white person defend themselves from the demonic hordes!

Journalists and their definition of racism is nonsense!

Jóźwik’s violent death is reverberating throughout Britain, and across Europe, as the latest evidence of a post-Brexit surge in suspected hate crimes directed at immigrants.

Jozwik was Polish and not the type of immigrant that the rest of the EU is opposed to.

Also interesting is the fact that there is no mention of the subjects who played the "knock out" game and killed Jozwik........

No matter how many people moslems slaughter, it is never a hate crime.

It has nothing to do with brexit. Brits of multiple classes are pretty frank about their hatred of Poles.

Polish is not Anglo. We have lost this distinction in the USA over the past 50 years as the “WASP” culture has faded from being the dominant one. It’s still prominent in UK and Europe from centuries of different groups fighting, reconciling, dominating and interacting with one another.

French, Italian, Hungarian, Polish, for example, are not all generically “white”. Anglo, Caucasian and white are used inter-changably in the US, which is culturally, genetically and historically incorrect.

In Europe they are aware of the distinctions between Latin, Slavic, Magyar, Irish, Russian, Welsh, English, etc. These are anthropologically distinct races and cultures (not necessarily nationalities) not lumped together as “white.”

In the melting-pot USA we have lost some of that awareness, but sometimes you can see it in old movies, TV shows and books. The distinctions themselves are not racism, obviously. Read popular books written in the 18th and 19th centuries and you will realize the Americanized dominant world view has not been around forever.

Great observation. When I first started reading Winston Churchill’s wonderful Histor of the English Speaking Peoples, and his other works, I was struck by his tendency to refer to the English and others as “races.” In my American mind I was a bit taken aback, thinking it was derogatory not to use the term “nationality,” as we would. Eventually it dawned on me that from the European perspective the use of races made sense. There were no common cultures there as there is, or used to be, here.

They move in and take all the jobs by, you know, having some skills and showing up for work and stuff. Outrageous!

Also, they are Catholic.

What are you talking about? Brexit was about immigrants from the EU — Poles and Romanians and Bulgarians in particular. Brexit didn’t impact the Moslems being brought in from Pakistan, Nigeria etc.

CArdinal — you write about “Oliver Cromwell, The Plantagenets, The Confessor” —> The Plantagenets were French, from Anjou and Edward the Confessor was half-NOrman (Gallo-speaking) and bequeathed the throne to the Norman William

There is a specific anti-Polish sentiment in the UK. in the past decade, one million Poles moved to the UK, hence are a sudden and open new group (the number of Polish speakers outnumber Urdu or Punjabi speakers).

This was not about wrong place, wrong time -- unless you consider England post-Brexit referendum as wrong-place-time

True Opus -- and even in the US, in the early 1800s the Anglo-Saxons discriminated against German and Dutch immigrants -- there was a shock when Van Buren with the obvious Dutch name became President.

Then later on in the 1800s, there was discrimination against the Irish, then later on against the Italians, Poles, Eastern European Jews, blacks from the south, Chinese etc. etc.

I moved to Poland 6 years ago and am happy, but I can give an insight into why Brits hate Poles (I lived in the UK 2000-2005, then back to DE until 2010 and now settled in Warsaw).

Salaries in Poland are about 30% to 40% lower than the UK. And London is the center of many financial jobs that Warsaw just can't compete with.

Also, thanks to the communist system, Poland didn't have the degrading of English schools that happened in teh 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s.

So Poles are smarter and better educated than Brits -- and this is from a person who has worked and is working with both. The skills, experience and hard-working nature of Poles is not matched by the average Brit.

There ARE exceptions, but they tend to be Indians (Hindu or Catholic) and yes some English and Irish surnamed folks

So you have better educated, better experienced, hard-working folks who are willing to work for a lower salary.

The biggest hit are handymen and plumbers, electricians etc. -- incomes have nearly halved.

There isn't a backlash on religion -- the English mostly have left Christianity so far that they can barely recognize the inside of a church.
