Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is defending Los Angeles International Airport, or LAX, from criticisms by Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump during Monday night’s first presidential debate. Trump mentioned LAX in the context of a statement about the national debt, saying that it might be understandable to have $20 trillion in debt and outstanding public infrastructure, but that the poor state of America’s transportation network underscored the government’s waste of money.

In and out of LAX hundreds of times for me. Truly a dump.
I thought he said LaGuardia.
Now THAT is a place that needs to be shuttered.
Uh, I went through LAX from Japan and the place was a disaster. We barely made our connecting flight with 2 hrs layover.
Trump mentioned LGA too.
If you change terminals at LAX you have to get on a bus and go through security again - where has the money gone? Into politicians’ pockets. I avoid it whenever possible.
But, Trump does have an interesting idea. We could use federal dollars to rebuild airports in LA, New York, Newark, Chicago and other gateways to America.
The last time I was there the toilets were full of poop. Staff was strinking!! The entire airport smelled like putrid excrement. I threw up three times. Bull doze that hell hole.
I got spoiled by the airport in Hong Kong.
The Guam airport is a joke but then Guam has 150,000 people so you don’t expect a huge airport

Of course the LA mayor will defend it as this is the way that liberals want our airports to look like. Out of everyone in the USA, not many take trips out of the country to see these opulent airports of other countries. Liberals want us to think that poor looking trashy airports are the norm.

Garcetti hasn’t made a connection from a domestic to an international or vice verse any time recently. What a pit and worse if you have a lengthy layover. Try and get eatable food in the international terminal. They can even wreck Rahman noodle soup.
Obama has pissed away $10 trillion to his globalist masters and we don’t have jack#### to show for it. Congress sat back and watched the criminals do it and did nothing.
Trump was out of line comparing these to third world airports. I’ve been to some very nice third world airports. Managua, Mexico City, Guadalajara and others. Much nicer than dumps like LAX and LGA.

You might want to check the funding source of nearly every “city” or “county” project. They come from every kind of grant imaginable...DOT, HUD, DOJ, etc...
You are missing the forest for the trees. His point was that our airports and such are an embarrassment.
Meanwhile we approaching 6 trillion spent in Iraq and Afghanistan. God only knows how much we’ve already dumped into Libya and Syria.

I thought the statement on our infrastructure was maybe Trump’s best line of the debate.
One of the problems is that, similar to Social Security, Congress routinely raids the AIP (Airport Improvement Program) "trust fund" for other purposes. It is funded primarily by user taxes, such as aircraft fuel taxes, but these funds keep getting siphoned off, so there never seems to be enough to meet the needs of the aviation industry.
My visit to LAX included a Mexican cleaning lady in the men’s restroom.
