Rolling Stones To Release Blues Album in December
radio.com ^ | October 2nd, 2016 | By Brian Ives

Rolling Stones fans have known that the band has been working on a blues album for a while, and now it looks like it will be released before the end of the year.

Frontman Mick Jagger recently tweeted “Watch this space #playingtheblues” with a photo of a case filled with harmonicas.

Meanwhile, both Jagger and the Rolling Stones’ official twitter accounts have changed their profile photo to a Stones lips and tongue logo that is mostly blue.

While both of those things just feed into rumors, longtime Stones producer Don Was told a French media outlet that “The album consists of covers of blues songs of Chicago. It was recorded live in the studio in just three days, with the musicians in a circle around the microphones. There was no retouching on the pieces. The record sounds very crude, very authentic. It captures the essence of what they are.” He also apparently said that the album is due out in December. For more on this story, go to WZLX’s website.

Back to their roots, and their core expertise.

And country blues is truly their core expertise.

“Exiles on Main Street” had a lot of that influence on it.
One of my favorite albums from them.

Longevity... they got it.

Old stuff. Christmas release. Very smart. Rod Stewart did the classics. No need for new stuff when it gets soft.

To include such blues hits as 'My jello is too spicy' and 'Why won't those kids stay off my lawn?'

We saw the Stones at the Minneapolis Metrodome many years back.
The whole place was rocking...

Yeah they’re past their prime... I figured they’d hang it up a while ago.

Yet... there they are. And people will buy it.

They’ve been past their prime rock and roll wise since Exile

Or Some Girls if we’re being charitable

But they are proving it still works

One of the cool things I have is an album simply called ‘The Charlie Watts Orchestra’. It’s a double size big band, about 35 people. That’s where I first heard of Courtney Pine.

Exile on Main Street was their pinnacle achievement.

“...But they are proving it still works...”

They’ve got a formula for continued success, for sure. I think it’s “Give The People What They Want”, and they know their audience.

“Sticky Fingers” was a great album too, and I also like “Goat’s Head Soup”.

Yep, Some Girls were where the Stones found me, growing up in the late 60s and 70s they were as old as Elvis and Chuck Berry I thought.

It's their live performances and over 300 copywrited songs that keep them afloat, and there nothing wrong with that.

They came up with some real jewels. And they can still play them perfectly live.

“...there nothing wrong with that...”

Indeed. There’s a REASON they’re called “The World’s Greatest Rock and Roll Band”.

70+ and still kicking ass. God bless ‘em.

Mick Taylor, who played lead & slide on “Exile” has been THE BEST lead guitarist for the Stones...and why Keith Richards fired him.

"and why Keith Richards fired him"

Keith once joked that Mick Taylor was one of the greatest guitar players he had ever seen.

"But he's not a Rolling Stone".

Mick Taylor QUIT the Stones over the endless touring and the set list of rockers vs blues. He was not fired, and he was never in the band partnership...the LLC.

A hired gun, and a damn fine one at that.

This is great news. Jagger's Wandering Spirit album is a wonderful example of the range of his talent. Early Stones music is very bluesy.

I can't wait!! Gonna' get it in vinyl, but of course.

A buddy turned me onto the Stones in '78 blasting Some Girls on the 8-track in his old GTO. Guy came up with and went through more clapped-out muscle cars than you could shake a stick at.

Ahh, Canned Heat's I Need Someone is playing on the radio...

Animals

Dave Clark Five

Pacemakers

Pre Acid Moody Blues

Hermans Hermits
