*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*
For those who hope Negan gets an epic payback, if the show follows the comic arc, you’ll be disappointed.
For me, this just became snuff porn. There was no need to be as graphic as they were for the events that unfolded.
This surpassed the trough scene in Terminus easily, and until last night that was probably the most graphic violence I’ve seen depicted on TV.
Felt like the showrunners were trying to overcompensate for the Glenn fakeout death last season and the viewer backlash over the cliffhanger finale last season.
I’ve been a loyal viewer for 6 seasons now. Feels like it’s time to peace out. Watching two human beings have their heads smashed to goo in front of their loved ones crosses my personal entertainment line.
You have a valid point here and I agree despite the fact WD is my favorite television show. This is the same reason I don't watch the "slasher" genre of horror flick. This was much more graphic and realistic than the standard "comic book" type gore of killing zombies. I'm hoping this was a "one-of" incident to establish just how evil and violent Negan is and was intended to be a bit sensational to generate buzz and ratings for the season opener which they hope fill follow for the rest of the season. But, I'm with you. Despite how much I like the show in general, if this type of reality based gore continues on any type of regular basis I'll have to tune out.
It went past the comic book violence and entered the type of real world violence that we only need to turn on the news and see ISIS committing. Wouldn't be surprise if someone over there named Mohammed is now bashing in heads with a barbed wire-wrapped Louisville Slugger.
Strangely though, the most intensely violent scene for me was the one that didn't feature a drop of blood; Rick accepting that to save his remaining friends, he would cut his own son's arm off.
That was the scene that made me think, "Wow. This show is off the rails! They ain't playing around!"
To be sure, it was a rough episode to watch. I'm in it though.
See my above comment. Things will be as bad, locally, and soon. Steel yourself.
I have.
