Why is WALKING DEAD the highest rated show on TV?

Because it's a classic "western" without all the worn out historical cliches. Americans LOVE that tableau.

IT is as if when they leave the safe zone they get captured by anyone with a friend with a gun that comes up behind them.
So don’t go looking for anyone and / or kill them on sight.

No, she’s with the black guy and seen in the promos for the community with the armor and horses.

He is trying to break Rick into submission, “you will do anything I say whenever I say it, then I know I can let you live and do what I want”.

Game of Thrones has also left out a number of rapes, assaults, graphic deaths.

Yes put me on please! OMG last nights episode was sick as hell LOL I can’t believe Glenn bought it, I was sure they would keep him as he is the only Asian on the show.

Oh my goodness! After the show, I felt drained. I think Negan thought out his actions vs just going on instinct. He left Rick (the leader) and broke him into submission. Why? So he could lead the remaining group to get stuff for Negan. He killed two male characters and took one male away as hostage. In short, he left Rick with the women/children/less than leadership males. I will say this: I have seen a lot of horror movies/war movies/etc... and my stomach actually turned last night. I think we are off to an awesome season.

“That may explain why I didn’t like him. He was OK on Band of Brothers, but didn’t like him on WD at all.”

He was one of my favorites in “Southland”, until he full on mouth kisses a guy, shockingly revealing that his character was gay.

That was it! Turned it off and never watched another episode.

I like the fact that WD is willing to kill off their main characters at any second. It creates an element of tension that virtually no other show has. In other shows when one of the main characters gets in a tight situation you are thinking “How will he/she get out of this” rather than “WILL they get out of this”. That takes the suspense to a whole different level. At this point I think the only “untouchables” are Rick, Darrell and Carol. Maybe Carl (”Corl”) also.

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

For those who hope Negan gets an epic payback, if the show follows the comic arc, you’ll be disappointed.

For me, this just became snuff porn. There was no need to be as graphic as they were for the events that unfolded.

This surpassed the trough scene in Terminus easily, and until last night that was probably the most graphic violence I’ve seen depicted on TV.

Felt like the showrunners were trying to overcompensate for the Glenn fakeout death last season and the viewer backlash over the cliffhanger finale last season.

I’ve been a loyal viewer for 6 seasons now. Feels like it’s time to peace out. Watching two human beings have their heads smashed to goo in front of their loved ones crosses my personal entertainment line.

"Watching two human beings have their heads smashed to goo in front of their loved ones crosses my personal entertainment line."

You have a valid point here and I agree despite the fact WD is my favorite television show. This is the same reason I don't watch the "slasher" genre of horror flick. This was much more graphic and realistic than the standard "comic book" type gore of killing zombies. I'm hoping this was a "one-of" incident to establish just how evil and violent Negan is and was intended to be a bit sensational to generate buzz and ratings for the season opener which they hope fill follow for the rest of the season. But, I'm with you. Despite how much I like the show in general, if this type of reality based gore continues on any type of regular basis I'll have to tune out.

""Watching two human beings have their heads smashed to goo in front of their loved ones crosses my personal entertainment line."

Yeah that was over the top. I think it would have been a better choice to film ONLY a closeup reaction of those kneeling before Negan and just hear a much shorter attack by Negan while they reacted.

It was far too much gore for me.

I thought about the level of violence and IMHO I think it was done for a specific purpose. The whole Alexandria thing got viewers away from horrid violence and more “domesticated”. By that, I mean it was about acorn flour cookies, pretty houses and couples (Rick and Michonne/ Glenn and Maggie). As a viewer, I saw that they could have a “somewhat” regular community. I think this episode slammed all of that in dust (no pun). Rick’s vision (after Neegan’s laughing at everyone at Sunday dinner) sort of showed me that Rick was hoping for normalcy. Well... that’s all gone. The zombies are always there.. it’s the savage humans that make this horrible.

For us non-cable TV folks, I was pleased to see AMC offering the episode for free on their website today. No log-in necessary and no commercials either.

The episode was brutal, Negan definitely a force Rick and company wil have to deal with.

Being a series long follower of TWD, I definitely have mixed emotions about this opener. It was way over the top too graphic for me and I'm not sure I'm going to watch any more episodes.

I will however follow these threads and when the time comes that Negan gets his, I will gladly watch that one............

As a side note, if I see the actor who plays Negan at my local Meijers, I'll kill him on the spot...........

This episode was too much for me. I stopped halfway through. Not sure if I will return.

I understand the idea of making the bad guy so horrible that you long for his death but ...

too much.

While I can see how the savage psychopath prospers at “human farming” when there is no law and order to keep them in check, the violence to an irrational extreme is not a survival trait and even detrimental to survival.
