The University Town Center Mall in Sarasota, Florida, has issued a very specific directive:
"For choral groups, the Mall prefers no clearly recognizable Christian music, such as carols sung in English, spirituals or gospel."
In a memo sent out to area groups who are normally invited to perform seasonal music, the upscale shopping mall leaders have in effect banned any music that could be recognized as "Christian." . . . . . . .

This mall was the only enclosed shopping mall built anywhere in the country in 2014. Despite malls dying all over the country they built this white elephant with the hope that it would defy the inevitable. On-line shopping will kill this one, too. Sounds like they are doing their best to hurry the process. The only stores doing well there are the restaurants.

The University Town Center Mall has just released the following statement:
“The materials created and distributed by a third party company relating to the hiring of performance groups for UTC were not reviewed by UTC staff in advance of distribution. These materials do not in any way represent an existing center policy or viewpoint. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused within the Sarasota community.”
A spokesperson for the mall has confirmed that Christmas hymns and carols that are “Christian” in nature are not only allowed, but welcome.
AFA has thanked the mall officials on your behalf and no further action is needed.

Why only Christian or Christmas songs IN ENGLISH? Does that mean we’ll hear Muslim chants?
That mall should die a quick and merciless death.
Where’s the merchants? Don’t they know that Christmas carols in the mall put people in the spirit, and they are likely to pend more money?
It’s time to boycott them. Anything they offer can be bought on line anyway.
