Climate Change rebut book suggestions for high schooler

Posted on 11/14/2016 7:04:38 PM PST by Phillyred

My son is a high school freshman and has a leftist teacher for environmental "science". He is pushing man made climate change and ozone depletion. Any recent book recommendations for his age? Web sites?

Also, any suggestions on how to take his tests and answer the way he is "supposed to" but making it clear he doesn't agree?

Thanks!

I recommend dropping the class. There is no positive outcome. Try signing up for General Science for a freshman, instead of Environmental Science.

If he stays in the class, I recommend that he give the answers the teacher wants. It’s a nice chance for the two of you to research the topics together, but I prefer not to argue with people who are not rational.

The class is required. But it’s been a good chance to discuss it with him. I just want to give him ammo.

Wattsupwiththat.com

Anthony Watts has a great science site focusing on global climate change and the lack thereof.

Michael Crichton - State of Fear

Best of Crichton's books, totally debunks global warming, oceans rising, and the heroes fight Soros-type funded eco-terrorists who are running amok trying to sabotage the planet to "prove" GW.

I prefer not to argue with people who are not rational.

That's the equivalent of letting them win, and letting them think that they are right in their argument, and that they should continue doing what they're doing, and if enough people are defeated in that fashion, then, the liberals will have their way in implementing their global-warming agenda.

The only way of winning against those that are wrong and/or irrational, is to fight using the truth.

Also, look up the founder of Greenpeace, he has an excellent presentation onglobal warming and argues that we need more, not less, CO2 in the atmosphere

Includes Mark Steyn, and many others.

“In this new anthology, leading scientists and commentators from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia consider the climate from every angle - the science, the policy and the politics.”

Bjorn Lomborg’s book “The Skeptical Environmentalist” is a good read. A less dense read is Cool IT: The Skeptical Environmentalist’s Guide to Global Warming, or just watch the movie of the same name.

As a good answer on the climate change issue, Lomborg’s TED talk on all the human problems we could solve for less than the cost of MAYBE impacting climate is the answer to your question. Do we maybe stop global warming or solve malnutrition, parasitic diseases, poor sanitation, educational gaps, and women’s health?

Global priorities bigger than climate change

A high school student can’t cite this to the teacher, but it does help in understanding.

Mark Steyn's book "A Disgrace to the Profession" reduces Michael Mann's hockey stick to a well chewed toothpick. As always, Steyn's writing is so good that it is hard to put the book down.

There is no value in antagonizing the instructor. It won’t end well for your son.

Just have him regurgitate what ever is required, and move on. It’s your job to make sure he knows the truth.

The time to talk shit is when there is no risk to to your son....like next year after he’s already passed the class.

Yes, good one. However the teacher probably has never heard of it or it’s on his books to burn in the street list.
