Prayers for Ms Duvall. Mental illness is a terrible thing.

She seems like a nice person. I wish her well.

That’s really very sad.

I loved her in The Shining. I’ve seen that movie many times.

I hope Dr. Phil can help her.

I just hope he doesn’t exploit her. He has a tendency to do that. Where are all her Hollywood co-workers from her Faerie Tale Theatre days? Couldn’t they lend a hand? Hollywood sure can be a shallow place. I wish her well and hope she finds peace.

That’s what I say. Hollywood forgets you the day after the movie opens.

I’ve learned in life that almost everyone forgets you except family when things REALLY go downhill.

BTW, your comments (I forget which thread) had my cracking up laughing on the bus from Manhattan to Staten Island :)

Was 3:30ish and can’t remember the thread. damn.

Short and hysterical posts.

So strange... Watched her tonight playing Olive Oyl, in the only Robert Altman film I genuinely enjoy, Popeye.

Happens frequently here on FR, someone unthought suddenly in "the news" just hours after remarking on them, even wondering out loud what they might be doing in the present day, etc.

At minimum, it may mean a prayer on their behalf would be timely...

Sounds like Kubrick knew she had problems and intentionally sent her into a tailspin when filming The Shining to get a more convincingly terrifying performance out of her.

Not good, not good at all. I've long loved that movie, but I'll never be able to look at it again in the same way.

She and Sissy Spacek were young but very good together In Robert Altman's 3 WOMEN. A strange piece but worth it if you like the atmosphere of Altman.

“Prayers for Ms Duvall. Mental illness is a terrible thing.”

I agree 100% with both statements.

Nah, they forget you the minute a movie fails to do well.

I remember that movie (3 Women). It came out around the same time Lily Tomlin starred in a movie with John Travolta. That movie was bashed by critics as unconvincing. I thought it was kind of nice.

The movie 3 Women was full of all manner of little quirks. One thing I recall was everytime the three ladies drove away in a car, the scene showed the car moving away, doors closed and from the bottom of the driver’s door, a fluffy hem of somebody’d dress was caught in the door. The hem of the driver’s dress was left to flutter and quiver in the breeze as the car sailed down the street. Why the director wanted that left in, who knows.

Mental illness aside, Hollywood can really strain the minds of people since the real issue is survival. Fighting for parts, fighting for recognition, fighting for press. It can wear you down and basically throw your mind if you don’t have iron focus and the ability to handle uncertainty.
