Boy would they ever get bored at my place:

"Sir, we've analyzed the audio. He's said, Open the Door 3000 times this month and Close the Door the same amount of times. What do you want me to do with this information?"

I sat down with my Kindle Fire last night to read a book only to find that “Alexa” had installed herself on it.
I already have stickers over the camera lenses but what do I do to prevent eavesdropping now?
Sheesh! It’s making me paranoid!

We have echo dot in our home. We use it primarily for turning on the lights. The wife, who is admittedly more of a techie than I am, uses it to make shopping lists and other stuff. It’s also a jukebox with acccess to the Amazon music library...for example just say “Alexa, play ‘Saturday in the park’ by Chicago” and it immediately starts playing it.

This technology is going to be a game changer, IMHO

I am sorry but these things creep me out.

Y'all get them if you like. I will stick with mechanical on locks, faucets and not connect my small electronics to the Internet.

The idea of someone being able to turn control the security cameras in my house from a remote location and then unlock my doors strikes me as unsafe.

My Amazon Fire game controller (with Alexa) doesn't have an ‘off’ button. Supposedly it turns off on it's own and will stay off.

Amazon should start selling ‘sound proof’ boxes to store “smart gizmos” in... they can listen in on each other... I'm waiting...

What comes to mind is “The Lives of Others”.

I bought the echo dot ($49) and a cheap bluetooth speaker as a surprise for my non-techie wife because we have no decent stereo and she was streaming pandora through our crummy TV, I thought she'd like it for the music streaming we already get included with Amazon Prime. I was right, she loves the thing and uses it for weather reports, shopping lists, setting all kinds of timers, and the music. My 83 year old mom saw it and wanted one too so I bought her one and set her up with Amazon's $3.99/month equivalent to Spotify (but only works with a single echo, perfect for my mom) and she is in love with the thing. Now all her friends are chirping about wanting then too but they'll have to buy those themselves :-)

It's the future.

Anyone who buys into these devices is a fool! If one does, they need to be absolutely certain that these devices stop funneling information when they are OFF!
