In the other 31 states the students paddle the teachers!

Paddling still happens in schools?
Since when?
The problem is that a very large percentage of these students either do not have two parents at home or else their parents have no concept of self discipline.
BTW, paddling was not always for disciplinary infractions. I was paddled twice in high school. 10th grade for falling asleep in Algebra (basketball coach was the teacher) and 12th grade for not getting a test paper signed by my Mom. I'd made a 100% on the test and my Mom worked evenings. Nevertheless, those were the rules and I knew them. The Teacher was the football line coach...ouch! Actions (or inaction in my case) have consequences!
Mr. Nutter, at George Dewey High School at Subic Bay in the PI who taught Spanish, took exception when I shouted out (unsolicited) in class "¡Ándale! ¡Ándale! ¡Arriba! ¡Arriba!". I sure did dislike Mr. Nutter after that, but...I think I disliked him anyway.
The other time, which really hurt, was because I was talking in science class. Mr. Woods had been a Marine (probably in Korea) and was a really impressive guy. Probably about five and a half feet tall, four horizontal lines across his furrowed forehead, dark brown tanned skin, and forearms that were the most muscular I had ever seen. He was the baseball coach. He had a paddle with holes in it, and he held it like a baseball bat as I had my ankles grabbed, watching from between my legs as he slowly mock swung it a few premonitory times, much like a batter in the batter box waiting for a pitch. On the third swing, he whacked, and it stung enough to make me dig my fingers into my buttocks in pain and let out a yelp.
Thing was, I never held it against Mr. Woods. He was very soft spoken, never raised his voice, and on day one of his class, he laid down his classroom rules and the penalties for not obeying them. And he was consistent and fair, always following through with his stated punishments. (besides being a good teacher) I broke his rules...and I deserved it.
That was the last time I was paddled in school.
Now, I did have a shop teacher, who all of us guys just loved, who put my fingers in a vice. I didn't blame him for that, either. A classmate and I were putting fountain pen cartridges in a vise and making them explode. It was making quite a mess, as you can guess. (I know, it is completely brain-dead and stupid, but...I wasn't a bright kid. I wasn't a bad kid, just kind of stupid and brainless on occasion. This was one of them.
I felt a gentle hand on my shoulder, and I looked around and saw Mr. Stauffer with his missing fingers (from a table saw accident) and his black plastic glasses as he stood behind me. He didn't raise his voice, but as he spoke quietly to me, he took his hand off my shoulder, gently took my hand, and placed it in the vice. He began to close the vise (one of those big, wood-lined vises used to hold a piece of wood) as he said "You know, a shop environment can be a very dangerous place. People get hurt when they horse around, and sometimes..."
Now, he didn't close it tight, but just enough to make me wonder for a second or two how tight it was really going to get.
I must say, I loved him for that. It gave me a great story to tell as an adult, and...he got his point across.
Now, my brother got caught horsing around in his class, and he sent him to the woodpile to get a piece of wood to be hit on the butt with, and my smart-ass brother came back with a six foot long two by four.
Mr. Stauffer hit him on the butt with it...:)
One of his other punishments was to stand in front of the class while he continued teaching and have you hold one of those weights from the scientific scales out in front of you. If you let it drop, you had to stay after class to get paddled.
When he described this punishment to us on day one of the class, he held the weight out in front of him as he told us this.
I remember we all snickered to ourselves...”pfft...big deal. Who couldn’t hold that thing out there all day long?”
Well, we weren’t smart enough to know he was probably a dedicated weight trainer, so HE could hold it out there all day long, but...us seventh grade boys wouldn’t have as much luck.
When I broke one of his rules and had to stand up there, I quickly found that holding even a small weight for a long time quickly becomes very difficult, though he did it effortlessly.
That was ANOTHER life lesson I learned!

There is another problem, though. Parents today seem far more inclined to stand by their children, no matter how badly those kids have misbehaved or broken rules. The teacher can expect no support at all, especially given attitudes today towards any kind of corporal punishment or teacher-administered public humiliation.
When I was a kid, I wouldn’t even think of telling my parents that I had been paddled in class or otherwise been disciplined, because they might well have given me a second paddling, no questions asked!
Compulsory government schooling is fundamentally a First Amendment and freedom of conscience abomination. It for this reason that, as a nation, we should begin the process of privatizing all schooling.
All schools **must** restrict speech, press, assembly, and expression of religious belief if order and safety is to be maintained among the students. Also,it is impossible for any school to have a religiously, politically, or culturally neutral worldview. Such a state of neutrality is impossible in the mind of any sentient human.
Since abiding by the First Amendment and freedom of conscience is impossible for any government school, this is a business that must be fully returned to parents and the free market on **every** level.

The last time I was paddled in school I had told this girl in my class that her living bra died of starvation. She started crying and I found myself in the principles office.
He asked me what I had said to the girl and I told him. He started cracking up laughing. When he stopped laughing he asked me where I heard that from. I told him last night on the Carol Burnett show.
He paddled me hard. I never said that to a girl again.
Funny...I don’t have kids, I only have my own experiences to draw on, so...it would be hard for me to say how I would react if my kid was paddled.
I think another poster brought up a good point, that...who wants one of these liberal weenies deciding if my kid gets a whack or not? Hell, they would whack the kid for voicing opposition to some liberal dogma, failing to say they think BLM is a good thing, or even if they insist on standing for the Pledge of Allegiance!
I will say, like you...a whack on the butt didn’t do me any short or long term harm, and it made me less likely to be disruptive in class and more likely to follow the instructions of the teacher. (In your case, it made you think twice in the future about making comments about some poor girl’s undergarments!)
I remember when I was sent to the principle’s office to be paddled. It made me think about my actions. I praise God for that discipline.
