No, Conservatism Should Not Embrace Populism

It’s not just that. They don’t like his infrastructure and trade plans.

But I don’t remember any conservative anti-Bush movement over Dubya’s promotion of freddie/fannie (which completely tanked the economy), the prescription drug benefit, steel tariffs, micro-managing schools, pressuring Israel to give up Gaza, refusing to move the Israeli embassy to Jerusalem, not doing anything to secure the border...and not to mention all the problems with the Iraq war.

Populism puts the human factor into the mix. Purists forget that they are dealing with flesh and blood people who have emotional needs and wants - Trump tapped into a lot of it because he is as human as the rest of us and not a political automaton.
