Black man tried to intimidate me for money yesterday
Personal experience | 30 November 2016 | Mene Mene Tekel Upharsin

It has never happened to me like this before. Yesterday, I stopped at a little taqueria just east of Austin to get something to eat. As I was waiting, a big, stocky black guy holding a roll of paper towels under his arm came up to me and asked me if I wanted my windshield cleaned for $1. I said, "No, I'm good." He kept on, saying "Hey, just give me $1. Can't you see I'm trying to work to get money for a taco?"

I politely declined, telling him my finances were tight due to car repairs and trying to pay for school for my son. He began to get upset and then looked at me and said, "You're racist!" and some other babble I didn't quite catch. He looked at my wedding ring and said he used to have one, but he sold it. I asked him, "How can I be racist if my wife is a native of Mexico?" "Why would I marry a Mexican if I were racist?" He shot back, "She's not black!"

The poor little woman in the taco trailer told him she'd make him a taco for free(to shut him up) and he settled down. Now, my question is this: Is this a hate crime, trying to extort money off of people as they go to a taco trailer trying to get something to eat? What if I were to have tried that on someone? Police probably would have been called. This has left me with a really bad taste in my mouth. I blame Obama and all Democrats for this. They have so divided people that a lot of blacks have been enabled in treating everyone else in an abusive manner. My CCW was in the car which kept me from telling the man what I wanted to tell him and things probably would not have ended well for the street thief. How sad to put oneself in a position to die over trying to extort $1 off of someone. This nation is going to hell in a handbasket.

Yeah, the advice I’m getting leans that way. Didn’t argue, didn’t escalate. He told me off and I just took it. My internal emotional response should be obvious. Just wish it would have been convenient to have my CCW on me and not be worried about my job should I have forgotten and carried it in to work. The laws favor the criminals.

I’m sorry if I came across as criticizing your response. You are not to blame one iota for that situation. My point is you can’t reason with dysfunctional people like that. Most of the time it’s best to just ignore or get away from them.

How could you possibly turn down a highly skilled, journeyman squeegieman for a mere dollar?

When was the last time you had your windshield cleaned by a professional?

No, I didn’t take it that way. It’s all okay. Just never had that happen to me, but I stay away from major cities as much as possible, so haven’t had the pleasure of dealing with that type of human debris.

The people in question are not dysfunctional. They know that persistence with a side of physical intimidation or sob story pays.

It is not hard to earn $10 an hour tax free. Turn downs exceed scores but lots of tries pays off

It's a hustle. There is no way he's going to clean the windshield for just $1. He would finish and then push and intimidate for a tip. I know a VERY experienced Walmart store manager who told me it would have escalated to that.

He said he wanted to clean your windshield.

By the time he reached the "rasis'" crap, I would have asked him how he would like to examine the cleanlniess of the bore of my carry piece -- from the muzzle end...

When I was working in downtown Oakland I was walking from my car to work and I was approached by a black female panhandler. She wanted bus fair for AC transit to “jus gets home suh, cuds you spare sum change pleez?”

She was in slippers and had her hair in curlers. Strange.

Anyway she had a fresh pack of Winstons that she just had opened up and was smoking a fresh one. Packs were several times bus fare.

I asked her “How much that pack cost? How much is bus fare?
then laughed at her and kept moving. The Aunt Jemima act dropped and she went into an Angela Davis mode ie: You MF’er cracker honkey SOB F** Y** x 2-3. Lesson: Don't feed the pigeons.

I live in a university town. Panhandlers are pretty thick on the main campus drag because students keep giving them pocket change. I’ve noticed that panhandling has become a booming business lately. I’ve been panhandled in some unexpected places in the last year. I got hit up in a car wash while washing my car. I was tempted to turn the spray on him, but thought better of it. Told him to get lost. I have been hit up at gas stations that I thought were remote enough that you don’t have to worry about it. If they hassle you at the pump at least it is on camera. However, I’ve been hit up while putting air in my tires. They easily could have put a gun to my head or a knife in my back. Not sure where these people were hiding, because I didn’t notice anyone around when I first pulled in..

I never carry cash so I don’t have that problem.
