Weight Watchers not too many years ago developed a drill that they called power foods. These foods encourage reaching proper satiety before overeating. I was losing weight on that plan, slowly. Skim milk, nonfat dairy products, low fat meat, many high fiber whole grains, eggs (yes!), potatoes, and fresh fruit, and (except for possibly having to watch fruit if you don’t get progress) eat what you want. I cheated a bit around the edges with minimal bits of margarine.

... and of course, most low and medium-starch vegetables.

Blame fried chicken.

Maybe but I’m diabetic and haven’t eaten chicken since 1955.

I’m with ya brother. Hit 300 for the first time on Thanksgiving Day. In April of 2013 I was 197. I have cycled up and down for the last 25 years. Once lost 80 pounds, 70 pounds, 65 pounds, etc.
2017 is the year to get it off and keep it off.

Two cities with lowest diabetes rates are Boulder, Colorado and Bellingham, Washington. Big pothead cities.

Southern food tastes amazing
Just got back from a week in North Carolina with my sister that I’m guessing weighs about the same as me...230. I’m 6’3” Shes 5’6” tops
Ate lots of Corn fritters .. BBQ ribs, key lime pie, home made biscuits, cheesy eggs amazing ice cream, fried pickles, cakes, breads and lots of fried taters...Welcomed burping for food coma recovery
I didn’t see any poor people but did a lot of overweight ones..... Can’t say I blame them being around tasty food like that.
Came back to Calif to my wife’s punishment cooking.... Broccoli and Brussel sprouts skinless chicken, wheat bran, quinoa blue berries and banana kind of stuff
No diabetes here, just boaderline starvation.

I could have written word for word what you said about cycling up and down the past 25 years.
We’re not 20 anymore. It’s hard to carry!!
I’m 5 foot 10 and I’ll settle for 220.
What are you shootin for?
We can do this!!!
COME ON MAN, WE just got the president we’ve dreamed of since Reagan!!
Maybe a WHOLE NEW DAY in America!
We don’t want to miss it :)

My wife went from 180 to 120 on Weight Watchers 11 years ago!
Unfortunately, it didn’t take.
We are BOTH too young to be this inactive and I dont want our older years to be her with diabetes (runs in family) and me with damaged heart!

It’s mathematics:
Consume fewer calories than you burn.
Stop calling it a “diet”. Try, instead saying (when presented with high-calorie or highly-processed-carb foods), “I don’t eat that”. Much more empowering than “I can’t eat that, I’m on a diet”.

333. Promised niece 320 by Christmas Eve.
I dont break promises.
You can only be proud of losing 100 pounds for so long before you look like a fool.
Id say at 14 months later, Im beginning to sound like a fool with that boast.
Give Keto a go if you’re not already on a low carb/high fat diet. You can lose 5-10 pounds or so water weight in the first week at 330. 320 by Christmass isn’t that hard if you stick to the diet and and count your calories.

I used to notice folks in the store at the register with the cart full of chips and soda and Little Debbie's and the like...not a veggie or fruit to be had....and they paid for it with food stamps. That was 20 years ago and I doubt much has changed...makes economic sense to them. Those things are cheap and filling. Those are the first things to go when the SHTF as well...chips, etc. People don't think long term, just immediate. But I digress
I have known folks who had stomach surgery to lose weight, one diet fad after another and the ones who seem to lose weight and keep it off, started with the same thing...they just started walking. Little here, little there...further each time. One woman I know didn't do it for weight loss, she did it to help her with depression but in the end, she lost 50 pounds. the good feeling made her more conscious of what she ate. She told me while she walked, she started noticing more small things like flowers she passed or how nice neighbors landscaping was. So the feeling was so comforting to her, she wanted to do it more and more and how she would find herself down-in-the-mouth if it rained and she was unable to walk.
I think a key is doing something other than thinking about food. We do a lot of comfort eating. I know several folks who were abused as children and to the letter, all are overweight. Makes me wonder if the poorest among us eat "bad" foods as comfort as well

It seems like if the government wanted to, it wouldn’t be that hard to limit EBT purchases to healthier foods. Just work it into the UPC codes.

Two college towns without a Waffle House.
Fwiw, college towns will always appear healthier because of all the young students skewer the survey results.

Boulder might be a pothead city, but the area is HUGE for outdoor activity. LOTS of people biking and hiking, etc.

Look for info on how gut bacteria influence your food choices. Turns out sugar cravings, etc. are determined by them. I’ve never seen info on changing gut bacteria can affect weight. Probiotics might be worth a look.
