Ah, yes. I’ve had many encounters with that cute and cuddly cactus. Had a friend who was an avid horse rider. Her horse spooked when they were riding through a cholla patch. She got bucked off and landed in the cholla. She was air evaced out of the area and was in the hospital for a couple of days.
When she got to the ER, they cut her clothes off in patches and pulled the cactus out. For years, cactus spines would work their way to the surface of her skin.
About 20% of the plant life in Arizona will reach out and attack you when you aren’t looking. :)
