The first fully vegan supermarket chain just went bankrupt [Veganz, Germany]

The first entirely vegan supermarket chain has filed for bankruptcy due to a lack of demand, according to reports on Monday.

The chain Veganz, which shuns animal products, will close at least four of its nine of its branches after announcing its bankruptcy in December, Lebensmittelzeitung reported.

Jan Bredack, the founder of the chain, told the paper: “The model of the vegan supermarket outstripped itself, because of the growing supply of vegan produce.” …

No idea, but in an attempt to keep in the spirit of the lunacy, I’ll go out on a limb and suggest certain ‘fertilizer’ might be considered offensive to vegans, what with it being an animal um, product. I can think of no other possibility.

One possibility that came to my mind is that British usages of "produce" may be broader than many Americans', and I've found confirmation in British news sources and commercial sites. One page repeatedly associates "British produce" with local cheeses.
