Rolling Stone offers an anecdote from when Mike Pence invited Democratic legislators to the governors mansion for dinner:
Mother, Mother, who prepared our meal this evening?
The legislators looked at one another, speaking with their eyes: He just called his wife Mother.
Maybe it was a joke, the legislator reasoned. But a few minutes later, Pence shouted again.
Mother, Mother, whose china are we eating on?
Mother Pence went on a long discourse about where the china was from. A little later, the legislators stumbled out, wondering what was weirder: Pences inability to make conversation, or calling his wife Mother in the second decade of the 21st century.

At least she doesnt look like his mother.
I will always remember my mother making a comment about Barbara Bush back in the days of Reagan.

Old fashioned but not unusual, to address the mother in the family as “mother.”

What a load of elitist cs’ers! It is common in the heartland to call your wife “mother” if she is mother of your children.
To: drewh
Several duded I know do that. No biggie. My hubby does me and I call him ‘daddy’ because we all do (kids).

I had a good friend in high school whose father called his wife "Mother". It seemed to be a coaching thing for the kids to call her Mother as well...
I bet neither he nor the VP call her that in private.

it’s unusual for today’s snowflakes, who refer to their adoptive parents as “Brad” and “James”.

YES! It used to be done a lot. My Grand dad called my grandma "mother" lots of times.
My dad called mom "mother" too.

My father called Mom mother. It was a term of endearment. They were married 58 years and died within a year of each other. My mother couldn’t live without him.

I noticed, since I moved to KY, everyone precedes my first name with “brother”. It’s just cultural jargon.

I don't know. I think they got us this time. Even Sean Spicer won't be able to explain this away. Not even Kellyanne. I just don't see any way how the Vice President can recover from this faux pas.
Looks like President Trump is going to have to demand his resignation. Darn, and he was doing so well up to now.

I have called my wife “mommy” since our daughters were born.
Now I say “Babe or Honey”. It was a habit for me. I see nothing wrong with this.

The eastern weirdos with their filthy lexicon find this unacceptable. Now that is very odd.
