At 12:18 p.m., a terrorist bomb explodes in a parking garage of the World Trade Center in New York City, leaving a crater 60 feet wide and causing the collapse of several steel-reinforced concrete floors in the vicinity of the blast. Although the terrorist bomb failed to critically damage the main structure of the skyscrapers, six people were killed and more than 1,000 were injured. The World Trade Center itself suffered more than $500 million in damage. --SNIP-- After the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, U.S. investigators began to suspect that Yousef had ties to Saudi exile Osama bin Laden, the head of the anti-U.S. al Qaeda terrorist network. Whether bin Laden was in fact involved in the 1993 twin tower attacks has not been determined, but on September 11, 2001, two groups of al Qaeda terrorists finished the job begun by Yousef,

VERY important thread for FReepers to read but too emotionally overwhelmed by it, so I’m moving on.

Those ####s took my towers and my friends.

I want sauds to pay in blood, nothing less.

I didn’t know killing 3000 Americans wasn’t such a big deal anymore as long as you’re in bed with the Bushes/Clintons/obamas/mccains...etc

Someone feel free to post the picture of Bush holding hands with that Saud ####

Clinton, Kerry, and Obama didn’t want to see their socialist agenda sidetracked by fighting against international jihad.

Candidate Kerry even said that we would just have to learn to accept a certain nuisance level of terrorism in the world today. Funny how he doesn’t take that same position with regard to gun violence/rampage shootings.

I remember that day very well. And I remember Clinton’s aloof response. The difference in my point of view from that day to now is so different. My city was assaulted. I will never forget nor forgive what happened. My life is in two parts—pre 9-11 and post-9-11. That second attack changed everything. I remember all of the misinformation that came from the first World Trade Center attack. We were told and ingrained that it was a ‘criminal act’ and nothing more. How naive we all were then.

Amazing the damage done to the understructure with the millions of tons of weight baring down on that damaged section, it all remained upright.

I was in grad school then. I recall studying in my university’s student union while listening to Rush (the fruited plain’s raconteur, not the atheist band from Ontario) on my walkman. Rush’s description was the first I heard of the attack.

I was on the 53rd floor of WTC2 facing southwest towards the Statue of Liberty. We had to walk down the stairs without lights as firemen walked up to the upper floors with full packs of equipment. I arrived home with smoke rings around my mouth and nose. It was a snowy Friday.

Not as scary as in 2001 when I walked through the concourse an hour before the first plane hit but was thankful I no longer worked in the building.

Thank goodness the structural engineering held up during the 1993 attack.

Many believe the objective of the 1993 attack was to topple and “lay down” the towers sideways, like felled trees, onto Manhattan—all 110 stories of buildings.

Really almost unimaginable the amount of death, destruction, collateral damage and mayhem there would have been had they been successful. It likely, would have eclipsed by a huge factor, that which unfortunately happened in 2001 with the airplanes.
