MILWAUKEE An outraged mother is calling on Milwaukee Public Schools officials to fire a kindergarten teacher who introduced the young students in her class to a Ouija board.
The mom, who asked to not be publicly named, said the game was used on Friday in her 5-year-old's classroom at Zablocki Elementary.
"They were shutting off the lights and making it dark and talking to spirits. That's not something that should be at school," the mother said of the game, which is said to be able to channel spirits.
In an email to the mother, the teacher said the Ouija board had been in the classroom since Halloween.
"The kids have been asking for a scary story and I got the board and moved the paper clip to answer some of their questions. They asked about scary characters in movies. I did not say there were spirits. It was all done in fun. I understand your concern. It was silly and I'm sorry. I will take the board home and this won't happen again," the teacher said.
The family said the children are too young to be exposed to the concepts of Ouija boards, and they believe the teacher should just stick to curriculum.
The 5-year-old is now having nightmares, the mother said.
"He's scared now to go to bed at night, to be in the dark, anything alone," she said.
MPS officials have not responded to a request for comment.

“On a side note, has anyone on FR used a Ouija board before?”
We used one all the time. We almost never got possessed.
We used it to see if it could guess dice rolls. It didn’t. I remember one time it spelled “Your real parents are dead”. My brother was in charge of that operation. Mostly he just scared all the local kids with it.
I’m not replying to all those pooh-poohing this, but divination is a dangerous sin.

^^Scripture references that condemn divination are listed in the article.
The “teacher “ needs to be found face down in a ditch or hanging from a rope. Suffer not a witch to live, as it would be better not to cause one of these little ones to stumble.
Evidently the boards don’t give out winning lottery numbers.......
If the parents want to play with one at home it's their prerogative, but I don't think it's a kindergarten teacher's place to use a "spooky" item with her students. I'm a public school educator (on my lunch break!) and I can't imagine doing something so foolish. I'm very careful about what Halloween stories I read with my students; the age and grade definitely need to be taken into account. My friends and I used to use one occasionally at slumber parties in about 5th or 6th grade. We were old enough to crack up about how dumb it was. Kindergartners, though, are a different story. I would think this teacher would have sense enough not to do something that could leave some of her students afraid, or MORE afraid, of the dark. If nothing else, it should have occurred to her that some parents would be upset. Playing with an Ouija board in class is more trouble than it's worth (clearly!).
As a kid a neighbor friend had one. There were some weird things that happened when we fooled around with, window and doors opening and shutting apparently by themselves, that kind of thing. It freaked me out and I never fooled with one again.
My brother blindfolded the kids once and had the kids ask “Will I die tomorrow?” and used a stick to move the marker to Yes.
They freaked out, of course.
Used it once. 13 yrs old. Never touched it again. Yes it moved under its own power. Pandoras box
Stay out of the Quijas!!!
I used to ‘dabble’ with it as a kid, but after doing a term paper back in high school, I understood it’s potential.
My ‘experiments’ with that are over. I don’t even want one of those in my house. No!
I don’t care who thinks it’s an overreaction.
Deliver me from evil.
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
When I was about 13 a friend had one in their house and we tried using it in their basement.
It started acting weird and within seconds, we were done with it.
Scared the living daylights out of us.
I believe God protected us from the effects of what we did in ignorance.
Stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. “Opened the children to demonic possession”. Booga Booga
I think the whole thing is idiotic and stupid activities but not dangerouse. the ouija board is not a game it is actually a spiritual ritual and is as bad as introducing a child to someone elses religious rituals with out the parents permission....at the very least the teacher should be warned and then not asked hired back the next year if this is not an isolated incident.
“but after a few weeks of constantly toying around with this Ouija board, the aunt who had taught the boy unexpectedly died”
You people make me laugh. Every time I fart someone in China falls dead of a heart failure too. My flatulence isn’t killing Chinamen. Dear God, it’s like the enlightenment never happened.
I did not know that etymology. Thank you.
You misunderstand the purpose of the plastic thingy. Your first sentence is where the truth can be found. It is folks putting the power into it or any other recognized or unrecognized object to elicit a response from spirits. The power comes from the person seeking to do what the Bible says not to do. The Ouija board is just a recognized object for that purpose. You don’t even need an object, people have been seeking spirits without them. The board has no power other than Satan’s deception.
This is an abomination to Christian parents, but we won’t riot or kill anyone.
“Is there anything at all to the assertion that you can contact spirits thru it?”
Yeah, it’s a portal to the afterlife. Courtesy of Parker Brothers. /s
The teacher should be fired and might be a practicing witch.
Ouija boards are a doorway for demonic entry into a person’s life. I’ve been in on hundreds of deliverance sessions and know this for fact first hand.
The boy needs a believing Christian who knows about spiritual warfare to pray over him, breaking off spells, curses, demonic assignments, and any demons in Jesus’ name.
In fact, I’ll go do this right now...
