The US Government:

In the US cigarette smoking became verboten and the mild high and deep breathing, rest break, and relaxation they engendered removed from over 65% of the population.

Alcohol has been demonized and the tolerance of alcohol use has been diminished to making at home use only a near future possibility.

Marijuana has been permitted with a patchwork of laws that are difficult to decipher.

Oxy has been removed from the public by legal means, and people have found heroin to be cheap and available, as the elite demand that our borders remain open allowing it to pour in. (hmm I wonder who is getting paid off?)

Can anyone get this drug without a doctor’s prescription? If no, how can the manufacturer be held responsible?

Amazing that the docs lectured you about refusing meds. They really are pill pushers. I could understand pushing vitamins or something thought to add to your health, but pain meds…yikes.

All this crap does is make it harder for people with chronic pain to get any relief.

I’ve got Crohns disease, along with severe arthritis. I need to try to get some exercise, but just walking in incredibly painful (I typically wake up 4 or 5 times a night, as just changing positions will wake me up.) In order to perform mild exercise (riding an exercise bike,) I need to take a couple of vicodin 10-325! But I can’t do it often, because a) I can’t get many, and b) I can’t concentrate at work if I’ve taken any narcotics.

So I limit myself to Tramadol, which was made a controlled substance by congress a year or two ago.

Living with chronic pain is not a good thing. People have decided on suicide when they can’t get the pain medications they need.

And may I remind everyone about Obama’s comment that maybe instead of surgery, you should just take a pill?

I’m 65 y/o and have many times been on opioids for pain throughout my life. Once after a bad accident I did get addicted to vicodin, but kicked it. I’m not Evil Kinevil, but I’ve been thru a lot of pain and am really glad for painkillers. I’m sorry it negatively affects so many..

At 55, I'm in the same boat, though thankfully, I've never gotten addicted.

After a recent severe disc rupture, while I was in the hospital, after they were no longer able to start an IV, but didn't want to put in a PIC line, I was switched from IV morphine to Oxycontin. It is an incredibly powerful opioid, and I find it difficult to believe that anyone would say it's not addictive due to the time release. All that means is it doesn't require more frequent doses... I was getting IV morphine every 4 hours. But when I was switched to oxycontin, I received a tablet every 12 hours. After surgery, during my rehabilitation, they were able to reduce the dosage and eventually get me down to 1 a day.

I was still taking 1 a day when I was released, and after a week, I was able to switch back to Vicodin, then reduce that to zero after another few weeks.

Opioids are wonderful for pain management, but MUST be followed and tracked very carefully to keep from getting addicted. That scared the heck out of me, so you bet I was very careful about how much and how often I took them.

If people are not expected to deal with pain, of course that's a first step to addiction.

If you've never had to deal with chronic pain, the above statement sounds reasonable. Chronic pain beats you down over time, taking away any enjoyment in life. Except while I was in the hospital, getting IV morphine, or later, oxycontin, I haven't gotten more than about 2 hours of sleep at a stretch in more than a decade. Every time I shift position while I'm sleeping, the pain from moving wakes me up. I have to live with the pain and poor sleep patterns because I can't take the opioids I need to help get the pain really under control. I can't work if I've taken the pain meds that I should be taking. I can't even do moderate exercise without taking vicodin. Life really sucks, and frankly, I'm really looking forward to death. I'm not going to commit suicide, but I hope I die soon.

“I did one Oxycotin after my hernia operation.
The effects were so dark and crazy”

Nothing dark and crazy when I took it, just mild euphoria and major analgesia.

Do try CBD (from hemp — mail order) if you haven’t already.

“...just mild euphoria and major analgesia.”

My knee will give out every once in awhile. I used some old ones once for it (left over from a surgery), and when I went through those I asked my doc if I could have a bottle of them for “just in case”. He prescribed them to me. I used those up and asked him to fill them out again. “Okay, lets see when I last prescribed them... oh - that was three years ago. Yeah, I can give you some more.” That was a couple of years ago - they are still in my shaving bag. (Knock on wood that my knee doesn’t decide to go out on me now!)

I discovered that hydrocodone, at least, doesn’t have much of a shelf life. Left over from dental surgery, around eight years old, the tablets had no remaining potency as far as I could tell.

I understand that there are situations of chronic pain when pain killers are appropriate. But, c'mon! One of my situations was a tooth extraction where there might or might not have been pain in a few days as the gum healed. The other was a shoulder for which a few Advils were just fine.

Doctors are pushing these poisons in cases where people could work their way through it.
