Did it ever occur to you to ask how he managed to get back on the plane after being dragged out by 3 big bad airport cops? Do you know how screwed these cops are?

And why haven't their names been released?

I'm with United on this.

When told to get off, he should have gotten off.

The flight crew/Pilots word is law on a plane.

That's not going to happen.

The die is already cast in this incident. United may have been "technically" correct in doing what they did. But the overwhelming public outrage is against United, not the man who was involved.

This is not about who is right or wrong, United or the passenger. It is about the spectacle that has been publicized on the TV and internet for all the world to see.

United will pay dearly for this mess. His lawyer will get a big settlement for this guy. That's a given. Their CEO should be fired by their board or stockholders. He has badly mismanaged the aftermath, as much as the flight crew and airport security did in the original incident.

What were these people thinking? That the public would think it was okay to beat up a passenger and pull him off the plane with a bloody face and broken teeth? I don't see any jokes making the rounds on the internet making fun of the passenger's actions. But, as in this thread, United has been made a laughing stock of the airline industry through social media and late night comedy shows.

In the public's eye, United is the bad guy here, not the passenger.

Thank you for that polite and reasoned disagreement.

But my gut instinct tells me he is not going to walk away with a winning lottery.

There was a guy interviewed that was sitting behind him and recorded him talking about how he was going to resist and hoped they did something- that shows intent. You cannot ‘plan’ to cause an incident and then benefit from it.

Also, why was he not arrested and charged?? He clearly commits several felonies.

I think we are hearing what the media likes about this story- the big bad corporation.

I may be proven wrong- but I have a lifelong history of being proven right on things like this. I even picked Barry to be the next president at George W’s second inauguration. When you get to be as old as I am (almost 60) you start to recognize patterns that are repeated.

The United Airlines story is an example of the media loving to stick it to the corporations. They are not blameless- they handled the entire situation stupidly. But he is 100% at fault for what happened to him, and I am convinced a jury would see it that way.

BARRING A STUPID ‘settlement’ (for an undisclosed amount) from the airline and their incredibly wimpy CEO.

I must have flown united 100 times the past couple years. Never had a problem aside from the normal delays and encounters at airport. BUT here is my attempt.

United, making the TSA look good since 2017

Hey guy, I'm 70 and have been around the block many times myself. You don't have the corner on the intelligence market on this incident.

United will pay for this, not the passenger. It will never go to a jury for anybody, including this so-called witness sitting behind him, to testify. They will settle to get the firestorm of anger at them from getting any worse.

There would be an even bigger outrage from the public if United sued this guy. They will pay him off and move on. Been there, done that in the corporate world. They don't like the bad publicity more than anything else. This can destroy their goodwill with the flying public.

I'm afraid your viewpoint is in a small minority on this.

I predict United will be forced to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy within the next 18 months as a result of this incident. The resulting airline(s) can make a comeback only if they change their ways and follow the Southwest model for domestic travel and imitate the Asian airlines service level on international routes.

Near future United passengers will have zero tolerance for business as usual.

This will be settled out of court. Suing opens up a Pandora’s box.
The security guards actions is what put this over top.
I fly all the airlines. United does not have a corner on the bad service market.
I have flown United three times since the incident. They are waaaay over serving. Almost embarrassingly.

When I first started flying I just thought the airline service was bad, that was over 35 years ago. Lately it seems the major US carriers are in a no holds barred to see how poor they can treat the customers. It must be embarrassing for the flight attendants to charge for pillows, blankets, and try to sell those pitiful lunch boxes for twice what they are worth
