10-year-old with autism arrested at Florida school
cnn ^ | April 21, 2017 | Jacqueline Howard, CNN

CNN)When John Haygood, a 10-year-old boy with autism, was arrested last week at a school in Florida, he kept repeating that he didn't know what was happening, as seen in shaky cellphone video taken by his mother. "I don't know what's going on. I don't understand," he cried out. In the video, his hands are cuffed as two officers escort him to the back seat of a police car. His mother, Luanne Haygood, followed behind them while recording the incident on her phone. In the video, John appears distraught, and yells some profanities.

Luanne is heard in the video speaking to the officers, "Excuse me, do you have any paperwork or anything you can say to me?"

Odd. School Resource Officers have been in schools since 1953.
The first, but many came to be years later.
Mostly in city schools around here but also other places.

Haha the ignorance on this thread increases with every post.

I wish it were required in all cases for special ed (of any type). That would certainly help alleviate some of the problems in schools.

Yay! Your taxes paid that settlement from the District’s insurance.

Don’t complain when your taxes increase. Or maybe you’re one of those that don’t pay taxes.

Either way, yay for the person who sued and got the taxpayers to pay her that amount of money.

Again, the ignorance on this thread is astounding.

That’s most of the parents of school age kids. Send their kids to school sick and pissed when they get called to pick them up.

There were some parents are one of the churches I attended years ago who called their kids *the little rug rats* and said they couldn’t wait for school to start to get the little rug rats out from under their feet.

Then these baby producers (can’t call them moms really) would go out and socialize, ram the roads, and shop all day while the kids were in school.

Clearly the kids were just an interference with their social lives.

What was hysterical was that was in a little welfare community we lived in and these females had no clue what class was really about. they had been born and raised in that community and thought cause they weren’t on welfare, they were some pretty hot stuff so they’d go around mocking everyone else as if they were something special.

I suppose compared to welfare deadbeats to some degree they were. But that’s not really too hard, not much of an accomplishment.

Anyway, sadly, yes most parents don’t want their kids around.

No offense morgana but schools are primarily run by statist women who see govt as paycheck and law enforcement by extension as rules enforcement and protection in the absence and rejection of traditional male roles and authority....that’s a cornerstone of feminism 101...the state replaced me.

And corporal punishment is often verboten

So what do they do....they call the cops

Hell most schools have an SRO officer

It’s ridiculous

They are heavy handed in whitebresd suburban schools but run and hide and do nothing in ghetto schools

My wife is tenacious beating up on school woman who get on her boys...she’s like a Jewish mom except she’s southern baptist

They want to drug rowdy boys and they ALWAYS believe tattletale little Nellie Olesons over boys

It’s just nuts the crap we’ve dealt with in public and private schools....schools costing 25/yr

This environment created meek emasculated hipster men more than anything else in white American upper middle class boys

I’m not women bashing it’s just the reality

There are exceptions....Denise Goodwin WCS here in Tennessee as fine a principal as any man...I wish she was superintendent....course she’s a rural gal with a family of hardlegs....acts and looks like Sarah Palin....

And Clara Bagley....old maid principal at my grade school....she’d whip her butt and suffered no fools from the girls

Whip them too

Ping pong paddle

Did the lawyers assault a 10 year old who was at school where he is legally required to be for the purpose of receiving an education. No the dipship teachers who are such daisies they can’t be creative with a kid like this have to call the cops.

What is your point?

To be more clear, kids with severe issues used to be sent to separate schools or separate classes, they now are legally forced to be in regular classes with normal kids. Not good for either group. >>

you can thank the republicans for that!!

E doesn’t “become” MC^2.

You should know that.

One of the very many things wrong with our education system,public/private and parochial, is the very socialist/democrat view that special education in all its’ forms needs to be accommodated by regular ed classes. That hurts regular education students. Another “special” circumstances at the expense of many.

I’ve been “working” in education for 30 years. Teacher, paraprofessional/aide, parent in public/private/parochial schools.

The only students who benefit academically from special education is special education students. It’s a drag on regular and accelerated students.

The “rewards system” sucks.

I teach accelerated math. The autistic student I have this year benefits from me treating him the same as I do the other students in the class. I hold him to the same standards as the other students and it’s been rough for the last two years but he is getting the best education I can provide without taking away from my other students. He is held to the same standards.

He is brilliant especially in math. I don’t have the problems with him his LA and other teachers have. But there have been problems (not doing required assignments, disruptive classroom behavior, etc.). What worked, and what I require, is “you want to be in this class then you behave” and I treat him the same as every other student in the class, to hell with the IEP. It’s been a rough two years for us but I wouldn’t and didn’t allow him to control our class to the detriment of the other students. And he’s not only succeeding in our accelerated math class, he has the highest grade (with not being allowed to miss assignments blah blah blah).

It’s been months since I had to throw him out of class for disruptive behavior. He adapted. We didn’t. I refused to put my other accelerated students through that bullshit.I’m surprised I still have a job, really.

I get paid the same no matter what but I care about the education my students receive and it will be a cold day in hell before I let a child or his parents control my classroom.

I got “cursed out” and kicked today. And this is a rural school with really good kids. By a boy in 2nd grade. Yeah lets keep coddling these kids and using the “special ed et al” crap. 2nd grade. Kid has major anger issues, disrupts class (if I had a kid in that class I’d be pissed), gets away with everything because...well just because of course. And all the other students have to deal with it because they are normal.

I told my admin that I don’t give a damn about whatever but I refuse to allow this disrespect and physical crap. This is policy then pick a side.

Maybe you should look at your state’s laws and policies. And if you have an issue then fight for your rights as a taxpayer.
