The state representative offers an example of how crappy we are to victims
Sometimes feminists use the term rape culture to try to distill down the way our society seems set up to give rapists as easy a time as possible, while making things as shitty as possible on victims, especially if one feels compelled to publicly accuse someone of rape.
We got to see that dynamic play out in last weeks council meeting when they praised a man accused of sexual misconduct and called his alleged victims liars, which, God, if theres a more shameful moment in our city this year, I hope Im unconscious and cant witness it.

Yeah. I see your point.
I look back to when I was 15. I was an idiot, but suffered consequences for my actions precisely because I was mature enough to do so.
She was complicit, but not legally. Legally she has no standing to make that decision for herself, and so the teacher is going to jail for a long time, as he should.
But I do get your meaning. He didn’t duct tape her into the trunk of his car, she went willingly, it’s just that we don’t allow this in our society, and he obviously knows that given how hard he tried to hide.
Exactly. Most of us were idiots at 15 and did not always think things through the way we should have, but we were still capable of making choices between morality and immorality.
I am always baffled by the way so many are willing to cut so much slack to females of this age but not to males in their mid-teens.
Someone needs to introduce this “writer” to a Thesaurus.
I thought they were extinct.
Funny.
I looked at the same picture and saw fear.
If I’m not mistaken, doesn’t this teacher have two grown daughters? Surely he knew how the mindset of a 15 year old could be.
This is a media meme that she was kidnapped
She left with the guy cause she wanted to period
I live here in the general area
Go on any social media site where locals in Columbia are commenting
Family problems
The guy enticed her and she ran off with him
He’s in deep doo doo
He shoulda been happy with an 18 year old
He’ll do real prison running off with a 15 year old at 50 even if she wanted to
Now she’llgo back to the dysfunctional crap that he was able to lure her away from
It’s not s good outcome for her either way
I watched her dad last night complaining Cummings took her away from basically quality time with her family.....deprived was his exact word
I’m like really ....
If I was her daddy I’d be in pieces worrying to death she’s run off boinking a 50 year old freak
Some things a man just doesn’t do with young girls and Cummins has and he’ll pay
Her consent won’t matter there legally but he did not force her
:)
My guess is if the state charges don’t get him put away then the Federal charges will.. rightly so.
She bears responsibility morally
If my 16 year old was caught banging a 40 year old married suburban Louis Vuitton toting soccer mom I sure as hell would not give him a moral pass
No sireee
Once again Cummins did not force this girl to leave with him
I live here
I know plenty folks in Maury county
It’s just how it is
He’s in trouble though....he’ll never be convicted of kidnapping
But the ex stuff carries 10 federal with no parole
BS. - I am in the TN county where Cummins will be tried; and
am about due to come up for another round of jury duty
about the time he will stand for trial.
In the eyes of the law; a person is INNOCENT unless and
until PROVEN guilty in a court of law.
(You do not know “fear” or “affection” or any other emotion
by looking at a photo of a momentary expression on a
person’s face.)
Cummins is; however, in deep doo-doo.
If he did not kidnap, say at gunpoint or forcibly, what would it be called or considered if he may have “lured” her to go with him with promises of travel, adventure, etc?
She was, and is, below the age of consent. The perp was non-custodial. Legally speaking, it doesn’t matter a damn what she thought or wanted.
Will he be tried on Fed charges first?
You’re right. Even if the student came into his office and did a striptease, he had to say NO on no uncertain terms.
Well said.
“Legally speaking, it doesnt matter a damn what she thought or wanted.”
I never made a legal argument. Just said I wondered if she was complicit.
Looking at the responses in this topic I am not alone in that contemplation. And I don’t see anyone else saying that it would make an excuse for the criminal. We’re just trying to understand what happened.
I haven’t seen anything about the Feds filing. They might not want to expend the resources if the state will do a good job nailing the perp’s a$$.
