Evidence is piling up that the Tower of Babel really existed. It's a conclusion that's partially borne out by an astounding discovery: an ancient brick with traces of an unusual material. (3:29)

Bump for later review. We’re in the middle of a Genesis Bible study this month.

It’s not difficult to find when you realize “Babylon” in Genesis was an anachronism for Eridu, the first known city in Mesopotamia.

With this in mind, the Biblical Cush was the first Erudite king, Meskiagcasher, and Nimrod, builder of the tower, was Enmerkar.

The foundation of the never-completed tower is still amongst the ancient ruins. It was originally a shrine to the fertility goddess Innana that turned into a vanity project to reach the heavens.

Yes. Saw that video. They’re trying to late date the tower to the Babylonian captivity and to Babylon.

Agree with you. Much older...and in Eridu.

Yeah, this is bizarre...this would have been well prior to 2000 BC, and that’s without doing any real math on the dates.

I found the pronunciation of “Babel” annoying. I’ve always believed it to be the root of “babble” due to the Biblical confusion of languages that occurred there according to the Biblical account. It’s not as if “Babylon” continues to be pronounced in the same manner, so I can’t help but speculate that “Babel” being pronounced “BAY-bel” is somehow reactionary in attempting to separate the tower from the language issue.

Interesting information, however, 587 BC (beginning of the Babylonian Captivity) is very different than 2500 BC (or before)....the time the bible records of the Tower of Babel.
