Star Trek: Discovery trailer (looks like PC run amok)

New look at the new Trek incarnation. Overall it looks like a PC mess. White men are almost an after-thought. An overtly gay man on the bridge. Set a decade before TOS. Of course, CGI is many iterations ahead of what has come before and it looks gorgeous.

Said to be broadcast worldwide on pay-for-TV CBS offshoot. May explain why the characters are World Government types.

Show was due January 2017. Then summer, 2017. Now -- who knows? The original show runner quit and show has been turned-over to others. Casting reportedly still incomplete.

Like other Trek fans I am still unsure why "Enterprise" was hurriedly canceled after four seasons.

The idea that this will be a show for all nationalities and sexual choices seems doomed to me. When you try to appeal to everyone you most often appeal to no one. Trek got its strength from force of character and muscular story lines. "Discovery" looks to be its neutered grandchild.

No, I like it sometimes, and the acting is good. It’s just milking out things we already know. The Chuck/.Jimmy feud is getting a little tiresome at this point.

“I can remember an episode where Picard told someone that there was no money”

True, but in the very first STTNG episode, Dr. Crusher bought some rug (or something) on that Farpoint planet and requested that “credits be transferred from her account” :-) .

Also, you can’t have socialism/communism w/o the social engineering ... of course, they’ll probably tweak Star Trek to show how the schools of the future handle that :-).

Then again, the more I think about it, Leningrad did exist in Star Trek IV ... :-) ... I guess I am completely wrong as only filthy, red scum would revive the name of that tyrant.

And Star Wars has ‘The Force’ which is not very realistic at all.

I find your lack of faith ... disturbing.

>>Roddenberry created “StarTrek” as his view of a utopian future, lest we forget TOS was as “PC” as it could be to get on the air in the 60s.<<

Short short skirts and hawt alien women for Kirk. It took 2 guys to replace him: Picard (thoughtful) AND Riker (horndawg).

And there was never a single green woman for Kirk — that was Pike’s thing (Vina, portrayed by the beautiful Susan Oliver who died so young).

All shows with Scott Bakula are doomed to premature cancellation. If Max and Leo had cast Bakula as Hitler, they'd have retired rich.

Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock trailer.

Takes place during the Cylon rebellion.

Makes you think what ‘Caprica’ could have been...

They already did an insane female captain who terrorized her crew and put them in dangerous yet avoidable situations

I suppose that makes the movie a "period piece"?

The 'Enterprise' finale was vicious, but it wasn't until the Mirror Universe episode of the last season that the show was actually cool.

On Star Trek: Enterprise they kept taking their clothes off and it was off putting. They had near everyone either naked or striped down to their underwear during the series. They had one guy (Tripp) running around in his underwear for most of one episode.

Oh and shoot first or the series will be over real quick.

Also the new Klingons should be named Clingons as they do not look like Klingons but maybe their distant 2nd or 3rd cousins.

The constant thirsting for endless Star Wars, Star Trek, Spiderman, Superman, Batman, etc. product rehashing the same tired story lines over and over again is perplexing to me (looks Harry Potter is following the same trend, as if 8 movies weren’t enough).

Because Hollywood needs to bleed dry as many millennials as possible before their student loans are due.

I liked the look of the Seth McFarland promo for “The Orville”.
Looked like a “Galaxy Quest” type ST takeoff.
I just hope Fox doesn’t pull a “Firefly” with it.
It looked better than ST Discovery.

There you go, the lack of consistency with the show itself. The writers, etc., want a Utopian Future without Money, Capitalism , etc. but can't figure out how to make it work.

Even Russia had to have some sort of currency to function.

The Liberals going back to Jonathon Swift and “Gulliver's Travels”, have been trying to find a way for a Utopian Collective to work, didn't work then, won't work now and surely will not work in the future.

Hey remember the Ferengi, their whole society was based on a kind Capitalism and Mercantilism.

There was maybe one white guy in the whole darn trailer.

That little vixen Marta was none other than Yvonne Craig aka “Batgirl.”

But that scene was her trying to get Kirk to do something for her at the request of Garth (played by Steve Ihnat who sadly died at age 32).

But Kirk was on to her game and pushed her out of the bed without doing the nasty. So Marta doesn’t count.

Oh what nerds we ST fans be :)

>>For the original series, the muckety-mucks said that either the chick (Number One) or the Martian (Spock) had to go. They were right.<<

Number One married the Great Bird of the Galaxy so there was SOMETHING there!

During the run of DS9, the Ferengi become one of my favourite groups of characters.

I remember that.
My response would have been “Wonderful! Mankind’s dream is finally achieved. Soooo, where do I pick my starship and get my operator training before I set out on my life of space tourism and adventure?”
