reddit is kind of like facebook for nerds.

For context, /r/The_Donald has clashed with the admins for quite a while, and had several rules imposed on it, like being banned from linking to r/politics. It is also speculated that the algorithm for r/all being redone and the ability to filter r/all were specific acts taken because of and against the_donald. This crackdown from the admins also comes after a new set of much stricter rules for moderators. While resentments between t_d mods and the admins have been simmering for a long time, there are some specific recent events that have led to this which I detailed in a post yesterday, copied here

I found it interesting a post about the first mod that got banned (ohsnapyougotserved) had like 10k upvotes and was on the front page ‘above the fold’ so to speak, of reddit. I saw this because my reddit app on my new Fire always took me to the reddit front page . wasn’t too long after that that the gate came down.

All one would have to have done, back several decades, was to live in the tri-state area ( N.Y./Ct./N.J. ) and/or read N.Y.C newspapers and/or know people who did, to know what I posted. It was very common knowledge.

And barring that, reading now defunct magazines and even some still barely hanging on, also contained the info.

The Donald is one nickname for President Trump. It started at least when he began hosting the TV show “The Apprentice.”

That was uncalled for. I know who The Donald is. It was the nickname that he first wife, Ivana called him. I don't know what "Reddit has shut down The_Donald" means. I think that was the only question.

The Donald is what his first wife Ivana called him. She is Czech and they use “The” before proper nouns when speaking English. I was in Czechoslovakia for a summer (when it was still called The Czechoslovakia) and it would crack me up how they referred to the city as “The Prague” or Castle Hluboka was “The Castle Hluboka.” They did the same thing when referring to people, as in “The Jiri and I are going to dinner in The Mala Strana.” So Ivana called him “The Donald” in an interview and the press back in the 80s made it out as if it was some grandiose title he had insisted upon.

As most people know, English isn’t my first language, in fact it’s my fourth. When I came to live in New York, I really had to learn the language from the beginning almost. Some things come easily, some things don’t. And for whatever reason, probably because I was going at my usual turbo speed, I started putting ‘The’ in front of most people’s names. Yes, you know the outcome — ‘The Donald’ just slipped off the tongue, and now it seems to be making its ways to the political history books.
