A devastating loss for a family in Carney after a man died from a rattlesnake bite.
Jeremy Knox, 38, was working on a bread truck he wanted to restore when he was bitten by the snake.
Initially, he didn't know what bit him. His wife, Jessica Miller-Knox, took him to a nearby hospital.
"Went to a hospital and told them it was some sort of bite, we didn't know, but that something was wrong," Jessica said. "They looked at it and sent us home."
The pain grew worse and the next day they went to Integris Baptist Medical Center where he was immediately treated for a rattlesnake bite.
"They gave him 22 vials [of anti-venom]," Jessica said. "From what I understand, they start on a low dose, and a low dose is six. They said they thought they had it under control."
But it was too late. A few days later, surrounded by friends and family, Jeremy died in his sleep.
"The last thing I said was I love him and he said, 'don't give up on me,'" Jessica said.
Now she and the four children he's leaving behind want to make sure he's remembered for his hard work and stubborn attitude. Jessica said she plans to continue to grow the business and realize his ambitions.
"My partner is gone, but his dreams are not," she said.
A memorial ride is planned for next week.
"So that he knows how much he meant to us," Jessica said.
Yup Rattlers a pretty benign, let them know you’re there and they respond in kind.

Maybe, but I’d be reluctant to convict someone for a missed diagnosis. If victim came in and said he had been bitten by a snake and they ignored it, then yes.

I think I saw that Eastern Diamondbacks were the leading cause of snakebite death in the USA
It appears they did not accurately diagnose what he was suffering from at the first hospital. Because of this he got worse and got to a point further care could not save him. The second hospital seemed to be able to diagnose him properly when they saw him.
So yeah, i think it is entirely possible there could be negligence at the first hospital. Possible.
I hope she sues the hospital out of existence.
Copperheads are probably the worst venomous snake in America due to their lack of notice.
Cotton mouths /Moccasins suck and are very aggressive.

The Eastern Diamondback gets to over 7 feet. On the other hand I have seen a program on TV which said that sidewinders are much more aggressive.

I am impressed that everything I learned as a Boy Scout getting Reptile Study merit badge is pretty much corroborated in that Wiki article. Almost more amazing is that there are six to seven thousand venomous snake bites yearly in the US but only an average of 5 deaths. For a nation with such a "bad" corporate-driven healthcare system, those are excellent survival odds.

Coral snake bites are very rare but they do happen. When I was a kid around 1960 an Army Ranger at Eglin was bitten by one.
They literally sent an F-104 to New Orleans for the anti-venom. He lived.
Their venom is extremely toxic but very few bites from them.
When I was a kid, we were down at a neighbor kids house who had a pond in his back yard.It was spring and the cotton mouths were in great rolling wads while breeding in the water.
So what do several kids do? tie on large treble hooks to their fishing poles and drag them in and kill them with a baseball bat!

I am not sure if you need to know what kind of rattler bit the person. The Mojave rattler is neurotoxin and your heart stops in 15 minutes. I know a couple of folks who have survived western diamondback bites, though with nasty scars.
This little Unique model L has accounted for around a dozen venomous snakes. Two copperheads within 10 minutes of each other and 3 cottonmouths. The rest were fairly small rattlers.The lone huge diamondback was when I happened to be carrying a Chinese Tokarev. A cheap gun but it was accurate and did the job.
That word “partner” is an attempt to get a neutral concept into the public mind. Attack on marriage and family.

....but they are very poisonous.
