Jennifer Nettles can sing with anyone. I’ve seen her in duets with all kinds of other female and male stars and she makes them all look bad.

1. Joni Mitchell

Finally!

I thought this thread would go to 100 posts before someone mentioned the undisputed queen of folk rock.

"Free Man In Paris" has been playing in my head since post #1.

Kate Bush always. Then there’s opera to consider.

The great ones don't even need their last names in order to be recognized.

Karen, Aretha, Judy, Ella, Dusty, Patsy, Spanky, Rosemary, Janis... see what I mean?

Imagination by Carmen McCray

What range she has. I listen to that song a dozen times a month.

In no particular order:

Karen Carpenter
Kate Bush
Barbara Streisand (yes, I know, but her voice is still amazing.)

Harriet Wheeler of “The Sundays”.

Love that band. Harriet's voice is magically haunting, and smooth as silk.

Probably more desperate in her later years. But I saw Melissa in her prime at the Troubadour Club in L.A. back in the 1970’s ...such an entertainer and great voice.

Diva Plavalaguna.

Besides opera, she does some terrific blues!

“Maria Callas”
She would definitely be my mother’s pick.

I would pick Mary Hopkin or Anne Murray.

Adele and Julie Andrews

Two great talents. If if you saw her tribute to Julie Andrews, and heard her work with Tony Bennett, "Lady Gaga" is an incredible performer and vocalist.

Janis was unique, simply unique. There was nothing quite like her, before or since. She’s like that weird girlfriend you once had. Weird, but unforgettable.

Well, she was from Austin, Texas...

I admire her formidable talent as an songwriter but her voice wasn’t appealing to me. Still, I did see her @ 40 years ago and she put on a great show. Ain’t no flies on her, for sure, but I always felt that other artists gave her songs a ‘magic’ her own voice couldn’t. She’s a heck of a painter, too.

One of my husband’s most charming memories of childhood is when he was walking home from school he found a trail of 5 or 6 chunkies. He thought he had died & gone to heaven!
