Jennifer Warnes ... when I hear her sing I know where I was at and what I was doing, numerous times and songs places and she just moves me with her voice ...

I know it’ll anger some, but Barbra Streisand has a powerful voice.
More to consider:
Billie Holiday
Annie Lennox
and, in her prime, Whitney Houston
To: PghBaldy
Too many to name only 3. This thread keeps changing my mind!
To: Vince Ferrer
Tough to pick just three. I can definitely see Karen Carpenter in there. Sad how her life ended. The same can be said for Whitney Houston.

Also for Nobel Prizes, Pulitzer Prizes, Oscars, Emmys, Tonys, and such. ...and for Pope.

Dude, you’re the mumbling moron. EF took the shtick known as “scat” that Louis Armstrong had come up with because he couldn’t remember some lines and EF made it into a classic form of entertainment. No other female performer of the past century can match EF’s range of octaves, clarity and strength.

Jo Stafford, yes, absolutely! She’s my favorite singer, period. It’s a shame that the current generation doesn’t know more about her.

I agree, first note sung and you know it’s her. Mama Cass Elliott had that same”original” voice, but she was no Karen Carpenter.
