They were just teenagers, never recorded an album (this is from their only one), no major contract, no videos, from such an unlikely place as Louisville, KY, broke up before the album was released. But, it turned out to be one of the most influential albums of the nineties, widely acclaimed but also hated by some. From their only album, Spiderland:

I used to disdain them until I met a Standard Poodle who loved to hunt. Very intelligent, not at all a small dog, Lab sized. They don’t shed either. Just buzz cut them, shear ‘em like a sheep. Sure, they’ll be embarrassed and hide behind the couch for a few days but hey I didn’t like getting haircuts when I was a kid, either.

Well, looks as if the thread’s finally died down. Thank you to everybody who contributed or participated, that was fun. Amazing response too, nearly 500 replies.
One last weird song I’ve loved and I’ll wrap it up. This is an oddly affecting song to me but the subject matter is sort of abstract. I suppose it pertains to Japanese anime. I’m not quite sure about that, but I do love it:
