My supervisor keeps the AC at 67!
I turn it up to 73 or 74 after he leaves for the day.
This is a currently all-male office.

A former co-worker turned it to 60! in the summer.

That guy have the coolest beard going today.
He reminds me of the days when men carefully chose the style of their beards because it was an extension of their personality.

There are other factors as well. I used to share a thermostat with the office next door to mine. The thermostat was in the other office, which was sunnier than mine, so it kept my office too cool. OTOH, my office was perfect for drying out flowers for making the dried flower arrangements that were popular at the time.

I had to buy a combo thermometer and hygrometer to SHOW my female staff members that it wasn't "cold" it was just dry(er).

Same thing in the winter here. Our building always feels cold. Even if the temp is 74. Cause it's so dry.

The sweater girl on msnbsee always looks cold; she even tried to light a fire in the studio to raise the temp.

Does anyone else think it's chilly in here?

Hmmm, could be...

thanks to a formula from more than 50 years ago.

We used to call it baby formula.

There’s a twist seldom considered in such studies. A person’s comfort is not exclusively determined by convection air temperature, but also by the level of invisible infrared radiation inside the building.

There has long been high efficiency “oven” or “tile” stoves that do not directly heat the air at all, but instead warm people with just IR. And the opposite holds true. Just because a room is opaque to visible light does not mean it blocks IR light as well.

I’ve been having a hard time getting past this statement:

” the temperatures in many office buildings are based on a formula developed in the 1960s that employs the resting metabolic rate of a 154-pound, 40-year-old man.”

Even in the sixties, were 40 year old men only weighing in at 154? Sounds more like the weight of a teenager or young man, not a 40 year old.

Strange. I’ve read that women had a thin layer of fat under the skin men do not have and this allowed them to tolerate cold better than men.
Yet even I will say that most stores that have AC have it turned down way too low.

Then there is my mother-in-law, brother-in-law and others who believe icicles have to be hanging off the AC vents before they are comfortable.

My office is often too cold.

I don’t complain, ‘cuz I know the only other real option is too hot.

I’m hoping his picture floats around the net forever.
There are few slogans, banners and jokes that won’t fit that picture.

Side note: our little village had it’s annual 4th of July parade Tuesday and a group of CW re-enactors took part. Dozens of men and women carrying the ANV battle flag dressed in period costume.

The men’s beards were varied and nice to see.
Everything from Lamb Chops to full Duck Dynasty types.

Are you saying that 70deg is too cold?!?!?

Most offices today run between 70 and 74.

About fifteen years ago I worked in an office where the boss kept the AC cranked down to 64 degrees at all times.

Since working there I cannot tolerate much AC. And I am now a sitting duck for every upper-respiratory infection that comes down the pike.

And the 50% who think it’s too cold are right, because Men are always wrong.

That’s oppressively hot.
Glad I don’t have to work there.

Your employees are miserable.
