Ann Coulter calls Delta 'worst airline in America' after seating debacle
washington examiner ^ | July 15, 2017

Conservative author Ann Coulter fired a fury of tweets on Saturday evening condemning Delta Airlines after she claims she was forced to move from her pre-booked seat. Coulter's tweet storm included criticizing the airline's protocol, WiFi, and even shaming another customer by posting a photo of the passenger taking the author's seat.

Everyone’s worst airline is the one they’re currently flying on.

AC has jumped The Shark in so many ways.

She needs to either stop flying and take The Dog or pony up for private flights.

Delta got on my list last week when I booked two tickets Basic Economy and was told we couldn’t choose our seats in that class. We’d have to upgrade to Main Cabin for an extra $60 to choose seats together.

We have AmEx Delta cards, basically to avoid the $25 baggage fees, but we put over $33,000 on the card last year.

I wrote AmEx and told them we will no longer use our AmEx cards except for airline tickets. We may go back if Delta changes its policy.

I’ll let AmEx talk to Delta about their family-unfriendly seating scheme. Imagine a family with four kids who want to sit together. That’s an extra $180 for the privilege.

I think Delta and United are in a race for the worst airline in the world. I will never fly again. If it ain’t within driving distance, I don’t need to go anyway......;)

Unless you’re taking Singapore Airlines or Emirates, all air travel today is far worse than trips by Greyhound back in the ‘60 and ‘70s. Between the race by airlines to pack as many fat butts into as many skinny seats as possible for the cheapest possible rate, and the ever-present security threats and resulting security theater made necessary by the Muslim religion, travel by airline should always be a last resort. Rich people can take private planes, poor people should drive, take the bus, or stay where they are and the rest of us just have to deal with the squalor. Coulter too.

I had a bad time with Delta this spring - horrible delays, cancellations, and a security scare. I complained via their online feedback process, and although it took a month, I finally heard back from them. I was compensated $150 for the aggravation. If you had a bad experience, I’d suggest you at least give them the feedback. It won’t make up for their crummy excuse for an airline, but you might see some compensation.

Who knows what happened, it doesn’t sound fair, but I don’t think she should have tweeted the woman’s picture. It’s the Delta personnel who allowed it to happen.

Basic Economy is a bargain ticket. It’s like booking on Frontier or something else but being on a Delta airplane.

You can choose your seat, or you can get the cheapest fare. Pick one. You don’t get both. For the same reason, red-eye flights are cheaper...it’s because the flying hours suck. Don’t like the rules, buy the better ticket. Why in the world would you take offense to this? It’s not like Delta invented it(American and United do it as well), they just have to compete with deep discount, no frills airlines. This is how.

What would you do if you ever fly SouthWest or an airline that doesn’t offer assigned seating?

In a way it does seem unfair to tweet the woman's photo, but it does prevent Delta from claiming they gave the seat to an elderly, handicapped, or unaccompanied minor passenger.

Around 1980, I was travelling with my 2yr 9mo old son from Dallas to SF on American. We had assigned seats. Got to the airport and checked in and somehow someone else had our seats. There were no other two seats together. They told me to board and the flight attendants would work things out. They didn't. The FAs made a half-hearted attempt to ask people to voluntarily move and no one would. So I sat in an aisle seat, and my two year old sat in an aisle seat on the opposite side about 3 rows back.

About 10 years later, I had a similar situation on TWA. The check-in rep moved us up into business class so we could sit together.

I've moved voluntarily. In a long line to check in, we got talking to a young black couple who had been on their honeymoon and were returning home. When we boarded the plane, the man was sitting next to us and his new wife was about 8 rows up. I asked my husband if he'd mind if I traded seats so the newlyweds could sit together to finish the last leg of their honeymoon. I traded seats and, in the no good deed shall go unpunished category, I ended up sitting next to a couple who were both extremely overweight and who were constantly getting up to use the restroom.

I really like Ann; I think she makes a great contribution to the national debate.

However (and you knew the “fancy but” — thanks, Friends! :) ) was coming...

Flying coach is never comfortable. Things happen, drinks or food get spilled, babies cry, toddlers kick your seat, people have to go to the bathroom and you have to twist yourself into contortions to let them out, etc.

It is the price we pay for having low-cost air travel.

It’s really not that bad. We don’t generally die on a cross-country trip, or have to search for water, or look for hostiles wanting to kill us, etc. We should really count our blessings. :)

Your situation sounds very similar to mine. Canx my Delta Platinum Amex back in March.

I think Delta and United are in a race for the worst airline in the world.

I would agree ... for the moment I think United is winning.
Flew Singapore Airlines earlier this year from San Fran to Singapore ... 14 hour flight in business class and a very pleasant experience as far as flights of that duration go. Returned on United to San Fran from Hong Kong, a flight of approx. 11 hours ... on a upgraded coach class ticket ... very unpleasant experience. Went United on that portion of the trip because it was homeward bound and I used my United Skymiles.
