It’s a little more than a color.

- Elasticity, grow and contract compute capacity as needed. You can even automate it.
- Unlimited storage, no reason to run out.
- PaaS, services (like database) managed for you, with patches, backups, disaster recovery, etc.

Not that expensive and in today’s world much cheaper and easier than running your own hardware and databases for a small site.

DOS attacks often have this effect. I think it may be the attacker’s goal. They’ve currently got us in a bad way, but we have not yet begun to fight. Don’t give up the ship!

Genius IT FReepers,

Please continue to send Jim your best ideas and remedies.

These matters have to be fixed!

FWIW, Twitter has been a mess too.

Wow! Expert digging! Guess you’ve never been to our donate page. Our budget info has been linked from there for at least the last 15 years: https://freerepublic.com/donate/

360,000 a year. My average annual salary was greater than half of 360,000 bucks a year. My best year was 225,000.

I worked in one place where the internet connection was 65,000 a month just to handle the server loads.

360,000/year is a bargain. At that price I’m surprised there aren’t more interruptions.

Leave Jim alone. He’s got work to do.

Yep, been there done that, but I used a link in one of the threads where the donations were being solicited. I probably read that a decade ago and forgot all about it. Never occurred to me to look there and I’ve been asking about that info for months and months now. My turn to be stupid I guess.

Like I said; you guys are very lucky to make that much money. I’m embarrassed at how little I make per month in comparison but I manage to still donate. Might have to rethink that though. It’s kinda like the poor beggar kid on the street giving money to the well dressed millionaire walking by.

Congrats and good on you for being so smart all those years ago.

The snarky part of me wonders why the association with Apple did not help out here.

But don’t forget to donate to the freepathon. /s

Spoken like a true FReeloader. I guess not all "principled conservatives" believe in carrying their own weight - just making excuses so they can rationalize to themselves why it's OK to depend on others to give them the handouts they 'dine on" for their personal enjoyment.

"FR has ran..."

Thanks, genius.

Thank you for pointing out that massive error...Hope you didn't bruise your arm while patting yourself on the back for picking that up...Obviously thousands saw the error but didn't feel the need to take credit for revealing it...Moron...

“”Like most FReepers, I do not “do” facef*ck.””

Well good for you! I have friends and family all over the US and it’s the best way to keep in touch that I’ve found. I’m also a member of several local, state and larger political groups and various hunting and outdoor groups. I’ve also bought and sold several items through various fire arms and outdoor groups. All in one site! It works for me and close to 10,000 other FReepers.

Facebook is not even a slightly viable alternative. I simply can’t expose my people to the prejudice they would receive for my beliefs, not where I live. There is nothing private about Facebook. Not an option plus how COULD FreeRepublic use an enemy platform? Insane.

I would like to publicly say that FR is much, much faster this morning. The homepage has changed significantly.

Whatever John did, it worked!
Thanks!

There is nothing private about Facebook.

Facebook forces people to post personal information?

How do they do that?

Then Why are You HERE Loser? You are well... The problems have to do with DOS attacks, being the Smart(ass) that you ARE I am sure that you know what that is. It has nothing to do with FR..And No it is not an antique operating system. Why are You HERE? Logic and Critical Thinking skills are not your forte, and I doubt if you know what OSPF, BGP, IGRIP, OSI, etc are. hehe What a Maroon.

YOu do know that you can restrict your posts to different audiences, right? I can’t remember if FR on FB is set to private (it should be) but then “your people” would be protected.

I think a really serious problem here is a simple lack of knowledge, whether that be from pure outright cussedness (”I don’t want to learn something new”) or a total “us v. them” mentality.

I do not understand half of what Jim and John say, yet I believe them because they are the FR experts. I also believe what I say and think about this subject cos I think I might be just a tad more tech fearless.

So the problems of this site are strictly relegated to did attacks? And you call me stupid. You are a clueless idiot
