De Blasio blind to desnudas problem
NYPost ^ | August 1, 2017

Mayor de Blasio dismissed the surge of aggressive foul-mouthed desnudas and other costumed characters in Times Square as fake news Tuesday — right before his own police commissioner admitted that cops are issuing more summonses to the scofflaw panhandlers.

“I don’t think there’s a resurgence,” de Blasio sniffed as he cut off a reporter asking about The Post’s coverage of the continuing scourge.

“I think the New York Post thinks there is a resurgence because they like putting naked ladies on the cover of their newspaper,” Hizzoner hissed.

But just moments later, Police Commissioner James O’Neill acknowledged that cops are citing more of the tourist-terrorizing moochers for demanding money outside of city-designated zones.

Those are his people. Tourist families with kids, not so much.

If out of town tourists didn’t rush to Times Square, eat at Olive Garden and then spend the evening gawping at these ugly hussies, we wouldn’t have a problem. Why tourists think this is fun in a town that has so much to do, is beyond me.

I never supported turning the old Times Square into the new Times Square. Within a decade, it’s become as crummy as the old one.

Educate yourself: the majority of people who hang out there ARE tourists. You think NYers go to Times Square to look at the Naked Cowboy and these women? Get real. You can’t get to the theater through these crowds in summertime. It’s a nightmare.

Last week I stayed at a hotel a half block off Times Square. (Never again!) I saw some costumed characters but the most popular for tourist posing was a group of NY policemen holding “scary looking guns” standing in front of a police car, greeting tourists and posing with them for photos. A great idea.

Some are ugly, but some others? Not so much!

You’re wasting your time with posts like this.
Freepers KNOW NYC. They’ve seen it on Friends, Sienfeld, L&O etc. Or perhaps they or someone they know once visited for a weekend and stayed in mid-town.

I’ve told this story before. After living in WV for about three years I’m at a neighbor’s cook out with a lady friend who was visiting from NY. In the course of conversation, the hostess says, “You two, you’re not like NYers.” My answer was, “Really? How many NYers do you know?” It didn’t take her but a second or two to understand that her view was entirely formed by TV.

Oh, lots of people here know me as the ultimate NYC booster. Some hate me for it but others write me privately that they love the city.

But it’s just fact that no NYer hangs out in Times Square unless going to the theater or going to a restaurant. In the old days, it was also a place to go to the movies.

Oh, I don’t love the city at all. That’s why I left 15 years ago. But what really gets my goat are the FReepers who come out cutting down NY and NYers, but don’t know WTH they are talking about. However, that never seems to keep them from shooting their keyboards off.

One time I got into it with another FReeper who told me he KNEW the city and he KNEW NYers. Where did he get this knowledge? He had spent one night and two days in Manhattan.....back in the 60s. Talking with people like that about the city is nothing but a waste of time IMO. That’s why I’m conversing with you and I no longer bother with the idiot yahoos on this subject.
