I still have a script that I downloaded a few years ago, that was linked here on FR (written by a FReeper?) for a movie version of Heinlein's The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.

With today's Deep State political intrigue, if done well that might be a big hit.

That’s because you SOOOOOOPER GENIUSES in Hollywood decided to stop releasing new film prints and force theater owners to invest billions in high-tech digital projection systems.

Just take your most loyal business partners for 90 years
and throw them under the bus.

“RingWorld” - boy does that bring back memories ... and yes that would be a great series. I really liked the movie “John Carter” but not enough others did. I found it odd that so many of the residents of Mars spoke with British accents ...

E R Burroughs ‘Mars’ books were a really good series also.

On topic I think I will pay to see the Bruce Willis version of “Death Wish” coming out this fall.

We are near one of the few remaining Drive In Theaters left in the Midwest. We go exactly once a summer. Tickets are cheap and we can bring our own food and beverages.

On VERY rare occasions we go to a local “full service” theater which serves dinner and cocktails. It’s clean, well managed, the food is very good, and the staff very attentive. The last time we went we saw American Sniper.

If we want to see a movie it’s on demand, Netflix, etc.

And we are VERY particular about the “stars” we support. I watched John Wick II the other night. Keanu is one of the ones we enjoy. He does his job and largely keeps his politics to himself.

Just because a studio produces a movie and spends just as much money promoting it does mean I am obligated to see it. I have seen very few movies over the last 20 years that make me excited to go to the theater. Frankly I have plenty of entertainment in my life on my own , I do not need to pay someone and take up 2 hours of my time for someone else to entertain me..... Not sure how they will over come that.

Hmmm? Let’s see:

Homosexual themed movies. CHECK
Liberal themed movies. CHECK
Movie adaptation of boring ass TV show. CHECK
Belittle Conservatives movie. CHECK
Make White people look stupid movie. CHECK
BOX OFFICE DISASTERS! CHECK

A movie going after the gun industry and the second amendment(Starring Brandi Chastain?) will be released soon.

Hollywood would rather try and dig their way out of the hole they find themselves in. Sit back and enjoy it.

Hollywood has been poisoned by homosexuals and sexual anarchists. Families would attend more movies together if there were more family-friendly and intelligent films to see. Hollywood is killing itself with its leftist, anti-American politics and sexual deviance.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Amen. The studios are not using CGI for saving money, which is really what it needs to be used for.
And the money saving part should enhance a story, not become a substitute for it.
Roger Corman made so many of the famous directors who they are today by getting a low budget and delivering on the story behind it, no matter how schlocky it was. His proteges took that work ethic and did amazing things with it.
A lot of the amateur work on Youtube could be bumped up for little to no money when measured by Hollywood standards, and make a profit for all involved. But hey, put stupid liberals in charge and you get stupid crap as output.
“Couldn’t happen to a better bunch.”
The NFL, too, is in for more grief this season. The dogs don’t like the food.
It’s the `Target’ paradox: “Let’s virtue-signal, pi** off our customers and see what happens.”
The GOP congress is due for a wake-up call soon as well; we send them to school, buy them books and they eat the covers.
Sixty years ago our local theater would show maybe 6 movies a week, one or two cheap fantasy si-fi movies on a month. The rest would be comedies, dramas, westerns, war movies and Adventure movies.
Now, our local 6 plex has had mostly superhero si-fi fantasy movies and one kid movie on most of the screens all at one time. Each week it is new movies, mostly si-fi fantasy and superhero movies. That is about 20 si-fi movies a month.
Dunkirk is the only break in the pattern I have seen.
Our youth truly live in an age of fantasy.
They stopped entertaining us to harangue us, indoctrinate us, demean us, discourage and disgrace us. And they wonder why we won’t pay any more to participate in our own moral destruction.
Ringworld is too long for a movie - and then there are the sequels.
The Moon is a Harsh Mistress would be wonderful, but, again, awfully long. But a lot could probably cut out and leave the actual story intact.
Still, Hollyweird would probably ruin both. We need a better studio system to do stories like those justice - fewer perverts, fewer ‘creative’ types, more real SF fans.
Okay! now that I know the formula let’s make a movie.
1. take one idiotic asshole with no emotional maturity and give him impossible super human powers with advanced training in everything (karate, electronics, driving, shooting, gymnastics, on and on ad nosium.
2.He must be black or, preferably a woman, or gay.
3. have an impossible and ludicrous chase or fight scene every few minutes.
4. Above chase/fight scenes occasionally interrupted by stupid dialogue regarding put downs and fight with stupid people in authority, usually white male fascists capitalist Christians.
5. All guns have unlimited ammunition and are accurate to several thousand yards and that is just the pistols.
6. All the good people are the super liberals.
7. Oh yeah, it must have a liberal theme like fighting Christians, protecting abortion right, stopping oil exploration, PETA, etc.
8. Forgot to mention that you can’t have any good actors, direction, script. Only animation that is really cool
Okay! Let’s just keep churning this crap out that offends just about everybody. Do it 5 or 6 times a year. Year after year after year.
