General Pershing himself *did not* order anything like this. However, his subordinate generals were not as gentlemanly.
To explain, during the US Civil War, The Lieber Code of April 24, 1863, also known as Instructions for the Government of Armies of the United States in the Field, General Order Number 100, or Lieber Instructions, was an instruction signed by US President Abraham Lincoln to the Union Forces of the United States during the American Civil War that dictated how soldiers should conduct themselves in wartime. Its name reflects its author, the German-American legal scholar and political philosopher Franz Lieber.
The original General Order Number 100 was a very tough document, and was very clear how captured enemy and civilians were to be treated. And if they misbehaved how they could be punished. And the US Army was still using its guidance during the Philippine Insurrection.
Which at times was exceptionally brutal.

Oddly enough, the Lieber Code was eventually used as the basis of much of the later Geneva Conventions.
One more time!!! I know that a lot of freepers r very well read on many subjects especially the actual facts about General John Pershing. General John “Black Jack” Pershing caught 50 Mooselimbs that were tried for War Crimes in the Southern Phillipines. He ordered blind bandanas put on each prisoner except for one Mooselimb who would b a witness. The General ordered a pig to b slaughtered in front of these Murderers. The soldiers soaked the bullets into the pigs blood and then the blood soaked bullets were loaded into rifle chambers. All of the Murderous Mooselimbs were executed by these bullets. The one Mooselimb witness went back to his village to give the Mooselimb elders what had just happened. There were no problems with the Mooselimbs for a hundred years until now. Wikipedia and snopes are a bunch of trash when they erroneously do not report the actual facts.
