My wife and I dumped TV in 1997. We just started using Amazon Prime a few months ago. The great thing is that there are no commercials and we can watch old shows from the past that are truly well done.
My wife is burning through Rosanne right now. I get a few glimpses of it and am amazing how good the writing was for that show.
And we got a REAL surprise last week. We started watching an older show that was nothing like what I remember from back in the day. It was really fun to watch and, again, was surprisingly well written. At least, we were very entertained by it and even enjoyed the message the show was promoting. It was called Petticoat Junction.
Roseanne was a great show. There were so many great characters on that show.
I thoroughly enjoyed the first season of Mr. Robot. I’m going to watch the second season once I find a little time...
When my kids were little, they used to call it the "didn't do nuttin" show!
Anyway, even if no more good TV shows were ever produced, I think there's enough decent content to stream for a lifetime. I'm just now getting into "THE WIRE" on Amazon Prime.
I have been on amazon prime since it started and I am very happy with the service. There is an endless amount of programs, documentaries and for a few dollars movies on demand.
Some of their programming is made for Amazon and is really first rate viewing. It’s well done and I think there will be more and more games f it in the future.
I joined Showtime as well and while a little expensive I think it’s worth it. I can cancel at any time.
I own a small flat screen TV which I have not hooked up since a friend gave it to me. I watch everything on my laptop. I’ve no need for cable at all. The cost for the internet alone is almost 100.00 as it is. Add cable viewing and it’s almost another 100.00 or more each month.
I am in my 2nd years of Amazon Prime. They have done some sneaky things.
One series they advertised as Prime and I started watching was Stargate Universe. A couple of months later, about half-way through my viewing the first season, they changed it to $$.
Last week, I started watching the Cinemax Banshee series. Yesterday I looked at the seasons list and discovered seasons 1 and 2 are Prime, but 3 and 4 are $$.
I also noticed that Prime has been putting $$ series/movies in my queue.
Prime, like Netflix, seem to have stopped adding good series/movies. I read that Prime is also going to cut back on ‘originals’.
Part of the Paul Henning agrarian trilogy. The Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres being the other two.
I have the album CD by the women of Petticoat Junction.
Found: Roy Rogers, Petticoat Junction, Mr. Ed, Rockford Files, Cannon, The Original Hawaii Five-O, Hazel, Father Knows Best, Flying Nun, I Dream of Jeannie, Green Acres, Bewitched, Barny Miller, Night Court, M*A*S*H, Bonanza, Perry Mason, Twilight Zone and others.
And *!GASP!* THEY USE REAL GUNS (with no sparking lead!) and SMOKE CIGARS, PIPES and CIGARETTS!!!
This crap they put out these days is absurd !!!
hollyweird can't make anything new worth watching and what they do put out is “xxx the 27th” that is even worse than the original crappy movie or show.
BTW We ended up with Cable for 1/4th the price of the dtv Thieves for the same crap PLUS the above Vintage Shows.
It's like being a Kid again;)
