Stuff like this is due to two generations of feminizing males.. My Dad (and likely yours) would have told us to suck it up and understand that kids are cruel “Sticks and stones may break your bones, but names will never hurt you.” etc.. And if actually bullied (physically) by insurmountable odds, likely our dads would have done something about it, rather than breaking down and crying.
Plus, if the kid is really all that fragile, another good reason to homeschool.
Sounds like the story’s dad could not be like your dad. Story dad is “ex” husband. Living away from that child who needs him.

When I was in school it was very rare we saw kids like this. Most of them had their own special school. Remember only one child with CP in Junior High and never saw her after that. Don’t know if she got worse or transferred elsewhere.
I always felt mainstreaming these kids was a very bad idea for lots of reasons this being one of them. Bullying went on when we were in school for normal kids but for these kids? It’s way worse and no way to stop it. Plus really the school does not care unless the kid is gay or transgender. It’s simply unfair to put a special needs kid into this situation.
