My favorite was definitely my 2001 Chrysler 300M with the “sport” package. The governor was set at 142 mph and I used it. We drove that car from Seattle to eastern South Dakota twice, to montana a few times and took the southern route to get to our new home in central KY.

On one trip on i-95 in eastern montana, just coming out of North Dakota, I got into a road rage match with a couple of guys in Jeep grand cherokees with Missouri plates. That is where I topped out the governor for a few dozen miles. Their governors are at 105. I’d completely lose them and when I backed off to 90 for a few miles they would catch up to me each time. So I gave it some real distance and never saw them again.

That car was fast, handled very well and was extremely comfortable on long trips.

LOL, I had a slightly modified 68 Charger which was a strong running car for a 318. I would “self identify” as Richard Petty. Unfortunately the Town of Ramapo’s finest did not find that the least bit amusing. Even though my Dear Old Dad was involved in local politics and knew the right people the cops would still give me a hard time, with my parent’s blessings.

If they got your license plate number you can just add a warrant on top of the speeding ticket here, officer’s estimate of speed is admissible whether or not he got you on radar. In my younger, stupider days I found that out. Worked twice, third time was the charm but not for me.

Steven Wright -—

The other night I came home late, and tried to unlock my house with my car keys. I started the house up. So, I drove it around for a while. I was speeding, and a cop pulled me over. He asked where I lived. I said, “right here, officer”. Later, I parked it on the freeway, got out, and yelled at all the cars, “Get out of my driveway!”

It is nice to hear others agree with me on the Pontiac Vibe.

If it had been marketed more aggressively, it could have been an extremely popular car.

It was a victim of obama (the GM bailout), like a lot of things.

Awesome !!

But, if I had my choice, I would have gone with the El Ranchero.

Yeah. I love my FRS with michelin PSS’s on it. But I do a 150 mile commute every day through the Kentucky twisties. If I had to do a lot of freeway driving, I’d not own that car.

When I was 18 I outran the cops TWICE.

In a 1963 Rambler classic, inline six and three on the tree. The key is losing them FAST. If it is remotely prolonged, you’re nailed, usually.

I recall a thread a year or two ago with a FReeper wanting an older interesting car maybe for a retirement project, but most 60’s and 70’s “classics” were well outside of his or her budget. I suggested the ‘78 - ‘87 El Camino, even went and found a few decent looking ones for sale online and posted them to the thread. Most were in CA though and that was not close or convenient. Seems that FReeper was in Washington?

Was that you?

I outran them in an ‘87 Buick Century 4 cylinder automatic (company car) but got caught in an ‘89 Maxima SE 5-speed (my car). Having a warren of side streets to dive down before he came around made all the difference. Without that, it’s just adding to the pain.

Certainly something to consider.

I get any number of tickets “In the Mail” in DC and MD, but I live in VA.

Speed cams. Never Red lights.

I just throw them away.

As a result, I won’t park on the street in DC because they will tow me. In MD, not so much.

I figure that eventually I’ll get a new car with different tags.
